Just found out to my great annoyance that Addison lee have randomly stopped their babyseat service. This was only suitable for 1yr and up but SO useful( esp annoying as booking a cab for six am tomorrow - gah!).

Does anyone know if there are black cab firms that can be booked? I know some minicab firms round here say they provide carseats but we've been shafted by them in the past, so I think black cab poss best option.

Must say am gutted as I rely on AL loads, grrr.

Clockwork cars (if you google them they're beckenham based but have drivers all over) also no longer do car seats, although they did used to provide the service whereby they would hold on to your own car seat for you and ensure it was used for the return journey - not sure if they still do that, but worth a call to them I think - they are comparable with Addison Lee in terms of quality (and price)
We have been using Linkway Cars based in Honor Oak lately and they do car seats. I think that they are very likely donated seats that the drivers kids are no longer using but they were in good shape and the correct size. We actually were let down by another cab company at 7 a.m. and were lucky that a lovely Linkway driver was driving by and went to the office picked up the seat and took us to Gatwick in time. Will be using them again.

We use www.airportsdirectservices.co.uk and they have been great. They've always turned up with the child seat, on time, helpful drivers and nice cars. I'm not sure what their last minute booking system is like though as we've always booked a few days in advance.

    • Have you seen there is now information on the two notice boards in Camberwell Old Cemetery about the history of the cemetery and who is buried there

    • Unfortunately there are two ways of examining this, if we even had the figures. The first is simply to look at the revenues paid to the Council and see if the costs (in terms of setting it up and recovery from it, including administrative cost) are less than the revenues. This would be quite simple to do assuming we could agree the proper allocation of those costs. But additionally we have the amenity cost to those Southwark residents either (a) losing amenity value through e.g. disruption, and secondly losing amenity value by being excluded from parts of a public park for an extended period in summer. That is not a fiscal cost to the council and clearly they don't give a damn, but that would be the only way of judging whether this event was of overall net benefit to Southwark residents, the only people who the council should be 'working' for. Don't hold your breaths.
