Hi everybody!

I moved to east dulwich 5 months ago, my daughter is currently in year 1 in the school where we used to live (Elephant &Castle). I made an in year application form for a place at Goose green primary school( nearest school) but I am on the waiting list. I was just wondering how long will it take before she can have a place there, because it is not convenient for me to go to her curent school, as it is really far from where I live now.

Has someone of you had a similar problem?, is there anything I can do to speed up the process. Iam desperate.

Thank you for your help

Have you tried contacting the school directly? They should be able to let you know where you stand.

If the current year one classes are at maximum capacity, unfortunately they wouldn't be able to offer a place unless someone leaves. Have you thought of applying to other local schools? Where abouts are you?

My son is in year one at Goose Green and I believe that both year one classes are at capacity but there is occasional movement. I know that one family is moving out of the area but staying on til they find a place near their new address. So it's pot luck but do call the office and see if they can tell you what your position is on the waitlist.

Good luck.

Thank you for your help.

I live near Dog kennel hill, I am on the waiting list at Dog kennel hill Primary school and Goose green.

But I thought I will have more chance to have a place at Goose green as Dog kennel hill is full.

I am gonna follow your advices, keep contacting them and see how it goes.

Thanks again.

If your child is in Year One then Southwark now deal with all the applications. Look under "in year admissions" on Southwark's website. Even if a child leaves a particular school then Southwark, not the school will allocate the new place.

This came in to force in September 2010.

Good luck and I hope you get a place soon.

Hi clare,

I did the in year application with southwark but they put me on the waiting list and now it depends on the waiting list from the schools I applied for. Because southwark won't allocate new places unless they are some available in the schools.

I don't know if this is clear.

In fact it is exactly the same because it depends on the school, even thought the application are dealt with Southwark

Had sent you a PM but as I see you're new to the forum you probably haven't found those yet!! Bessemer Grange school is very near you too and may well have places - certainly worth adding yourself to their list too (and maybe visit the school, think you'll be pleasantly surprised).

Bessemer grange is far from where I live

It takes at least 25 mn walking to get there as there are no direct transport . they might have places available, but it is taking too long to get there compare to Goose green (2mn walk ) or Dog kennel hill (2mn walk as well). The school is a bit hidden .

    • Shop was closed today & flowers left outside….. the funeral couldn’t be so soon, could it?
    • After I contacted them via online chat the assistant said, "Sorry I don't know what happened", basically. She offered to rebook the pickup but I said there was no time to try a third time. I got a refund and sent my parcel through the post office instead.
