kford
Looks flash - there's a few hundred quid's worth of custom-made transfers in the window announcing the arrival of the hospice 'superstore'. I wonder how many Celine Dion CDs, old teapots and shiny suits they'll have to shift to pay off the lease. Stalkey
I notice that St. Christopher's wont take toys anymore - anyone know why not?Never really understood why our charity shops aren't terribly good. I go over to Beckenham to get great bargains and good stock. Or is it just me?! 3 little piggies
Yeh, I went in to ask about a vase in the window (I had one that I'd bought form Ikea the previous year) and they wanted ?4.99 for it. It only cost ?2.99 brand new. I know it's a charity shop but that's pushing it a bit. OliviaDee
i donate loads and loads of really good children's stuff - as i am sure do many parents here in nappy valley - yet they never have much more for sale in the 'children's department' than three stained baby-grows. anyone know why that is? the place should be coming down with boden! Ann
That's a good point OliviaDee. You would have thought the chrity shops here would be awash with quality chidren's items. I've just had a clear out and have bags of excellent chidren's books that have been clogging my shelves which I plan to donate to the shop. I will post back if they're never seen again.I believe that some charity shops have a policy that items from well supported shops can be redistributed to areas that are not which would answer your query. Jeremy
Or maybe the good stuff just gets snapped up as soon as it hits the shelves? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15619-new-st-christphers-shop/#findComment-409535 Share on other sites
kford
Ann's right - especially at the 'chain' charity store. The really good stuff goes on eBay: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/British-Heart-Foundation-Shop Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15619-new-st-christphers-shop/#findComment-409544 Share on other sites
OliviaDee
yip. they simply never have decent children's stuff and i know they are given plenty. shame - they would sell plenty round here too. OliviaDee
just checked out that e-bay link.so what exactly is the point of having local charity stores at all - if all they want to do is sell the crappier stuff (and it really is in St C's) to their actual customers and auction the better stuff on-line where they do not have to pay Lordship Lane overheads?
