Given the questions that arose regarding this comment, I sent a PM to Scribe to ask him/her to clarify what was meant by their post. I was given a response but as it was via PM I am not at liberty to say what it contained.

However, I will feel free to say that the reason Scribe didn't respond on the thread was simply because for some reason he/she found that he/she wasn't able to post on this thread anymore.

Lo and behold, the power of Admin. Old Scribe was happily posting away elsewhere which must in some small way have made up for the inconvenience of not being able to post on this thread anymore.

jesus sean i never ever heard that sentiment expressed. not once. not even as a very bad taste joke. yes the county's in tatters but the sentiment i most heard expressed is that post-colonial malaise played its part in that.
