intexasatthe moment
Sephiroth -'m not sure that my thoughts are sufficiently well informed to comment but ....in this extract I'm puzzled by the comment about a referendum campaign ,I thought Labour were against another referendum"Consider, for example this one: November election ? hung parliament needing negotiations that lead to a Labour minority government with confidence and supply from LibDems/ SNP ? negotiations begin with EU for a ?Labour Brexit?, interrupted by Christmas ? a new deal agreed ? a referendum campaign held ? the implementation of the result. In that sequence of events we will be well into next summer, presumably"and I would have welcomed some discussion of the Kinnock ammendment and it's significance .And Teresa May's last Withdrawal Agreement ,which I presume is the only proposed deal currently available .And what about the border in Ireland ?I'm sure my comments show how poor my grasp of all this is ,I'm woefully lost . If his constituency voted to leave the EU three years ago then he has done the right thing. Choosing to do it because his brother is now PM and he (Jo) makes a public announcement defending his family etc. makes it even better that he should go. It doesn't matter what your constituency believes an MP is voted to use their own judgement. It's at the core of British Democracy and not just my point of view.Of course Orpington is now free for Boris to take as his own in any GE as Uxbridge is not a safe seat if you suspect Jo is still doing Boris a favour. diable rouge
Cummings detests Farage, his strategy of 'do or die' Brexit by the 31st Oct was also to neuter Farage and the Brexit Party once and for all, make him totally irrelevant politically. That's now failed with the extension Bill, so they have to change tack somehow and get a deal before the 31st in order to nullify Farage. A majority of Tory members when polled over the summer were happy to see the break up of the Union if it meant Brexit, so a Northern Ireland only backstop wouldn't upset them, just the DUP, who at the moment are useless to Johnson as their votes make no difference anymore. So, why not throw the DUP under the Brexit bus while parliament is shut down for 5 weeks and then vote on May's deal with a NI only backstop when they get back on 14th Oct?Numbers would be tight with some ERG voting with DUP against it, but some Labour also likely to vote for it... teddyboy23
Apparently Boris will refuse to appoint a new European commissioner if forced to extend our membership after 31st October.this would mean the ec is not legally constituted because it must have. 28 commissioners.one from each member state if the EU tries to reduced the number.Boris will have the power of veto to block it.EU activity will be frozen.meaning . a no deal brexit would happen by 31 st October.by default .which could mean he doesn't have to abide by today's ruling. Slag me off if I'm wrong. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/157024-brexit-view/page/140/#findComment-1366951 Share on other sites
