getting label glue OFF

Does anyone know how to get the really sticky label glue off? Some labels just come off and leave a clean surface but some manufactures use a glue designed for an endworld scenerio.... almost impossible to remove and then leaves an ugly smudge. Thanks for your collective wisdom!

try soaking it in fairy liquid always works for me

Peanut butter works very well (good for getting gum out of hair too).

Also many labels are affixed with heat. The glue sets as it cools. So if you want to remove a sticky label, try heating it with a hairdryer then gently pulling the label away.
