I used to live around the corner from that house and often wondered what the score was.

Both that house 'The Edenburg' and opposite appear to have been retailers at some point. I'm guessing the Edenburg was a pub as it's an odd name for a sweet shop.

The house opposite has recently had the frontage rebuit as accommodation, but they appear to have been forced to rebuild it with the same large-windowed commercial frontage. I'm guessing there's some planning permission limits that apply to both buildings.

The Edenburg (with the 'sex' sign) appears to be converted for accommodation also - so it's not shut up. I've walked past a couple of times when the back yard's being cleared, there were a couple of pleasant ladies who appeared to be the residents.

I notice that they appeared to have quite an eclectic range of yard ornaments, and drove quite a funky little mini.

My conclusion was that they were probably just flamboyant residents with a slightly alternative outlook for whom the 'sex' sign was no more than a bit of fun.

I can reassure readers that I've never seen any unusual comings or goings, and I'm sure the suggestion that they may be involved in illegal occupations was merely a witticism rather than a slur ;-)

I second (or third) the opening of an adult shop in ED; but it must be equal opportunity - none of this "ladies only" stuff.

It should cater for women, men, those who are transgender, all ages, all variations of physical ability, race, age, religion and species.

So that would be a sex shop running from the Magadala all the way down to the EDT then.

Should keep us occupied.

I quite agree with your concern about this sexist agenda, MP. If we have a sex shop it should be for all genders at all times. Can you imagine the stink if any type of shop opened and announced that women would only be admitted if they were accompanied by a man? There would be World War Three.

Also, what is this about a 'cheap' man-brothel? Listen, biatch, I ain't cheap! I got standards and demand enough pay per shag to at least buy a salmon and chips in the Sea Cow.

Sooo ummmm if a sign goes up - one of those planning notice things - saying an adult shop is opening - we can expect lots of scared people with children who conceived those children with their eyes shut probably - will write to the planners saying something like, "Oi! Sex Shop? NOOOO!" and we will all individually write to them and say "Yes Please", will we? I will. I really will.

Sh! had the thing about men only being allowed in the shop if accompanied by a woman, simply because they wanted to make women feel comfortable and brave about going in, and to be fair it worked and they have done very well. Hopefully we don't need that now, or if one of us does, we can call up our friends in here and ask to go with them. Seriously, an awful lot of women are really curious but dead embarrassed and scared about what actually can be sold in a sex shop. Sh! broke the mould of sex shops in that way. Thankfully it ain't all about porn and abuse of women any more. You can go into top shelf regions of WHSmiths for that....

Anyway, yes, let's hope it happens.

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
