reren
My 4 month old has come up in a sort of rash - most obvious on tummy but also v dry skin on arms and legs. We were fortunately at dr's for vaccinations when i noticed it first and the nurse looked at it and said it could be connected to having just been swimming or teething (no sign of teeth yet but loads of drool) It is sort of patches of red and on the tummy there are little raised bumps - has been there now for about 4 days and the aqueous cream suggested by nurse doesnt seem to be doing anything. Does this sound familiar to anyone? He isnt at all bothered by it - in good spirits and doesnt react when you touch his tummy... Moi23
My little one had something similar at around 3 months. Didn't seem to bother him. I spoke to a friend who was a retired GP specialised in dermatology and she reckoned best do nothing. Still it didn't seem to go so I took him to the doctors and they prescribed hydrocortisone cream. It seemed to help, but the dr didn't really know exactly what it was. Hope that helps. If you're worried, go see the GP or HV, just for peace of mind. supergolden88
My baby has the same and it was diagnosed as dry skin or infatile eczema. We are plastering him in oilatum jrif the rash forms a sort of circle it could be ringworm in which case you need anti fungal cream Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16032-bumpy-rash-on-baby-any-thoughts/#findComment-415320 Share on other sites
Saffron
I've just recently learned that viral rashes in babies and toddlers are not uncommon and can have varied appearances. As long as your LO is not unwell otherwise, you don't need to do anything. xx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16032-bumpy-rash-on-baby-any-thoughts/#findComment-415412 Share on other sites
buggie
Especially as you describe it as dry/patchy (I'm guessing from what you say patches rather than spots & dry as almost flaky rather than just not wet/oozy) it sounds v much like infantile eczema - the distribution as you describe is v typical and can often be something that babies grow out of. Would be worth seeing GP as diprobase/doublebase cream may be more effective or even a v short course of hydrocortisone cream to use on the worst patches.Hope he feels better soon - lucky this time of year that he'll be in long sleeves & getting too hot so prob isn't as itchy. sanity girl
Uh oh baby E has exactly the same symptoms - I suspect eczema, so off to GP it is :(. My daughter has always had perfect skin, no problems or dryness and I sometimes wonder if this is connected to us not bathing her at all until she was about 3 weeks old, and only using Aveeno baby oil in the bath (we got this in Italy, not sure if you can get it here) for the first year - baby E on the other hand had a bath very early on, and has been dunked in his sister's water with bubble bath in. Better change our habits I guess! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16032-bumpy-rash-on-baby-any-thoughts/#findComment-415569 Share on other sites
