The Beeb has released what the big money earners are getting paid.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40653861

The debate has been around the male/female split, but I think that misses the real point: why are the Beeb dishing out such big salaries? I can sort of understand some of the 'names', but there are some real surprises in the list. Like the bloke from Casualty on nearly ?400k. Half a million for fronting the One Show. EastEnders actors on hundreds of thousands. Newsreaders. Sporting presenters.

People get paid less than that to run large businesses. The PM gets paid less than that to run the whole damn country.

Now I don't begrudge them a good salary, but I'm thinking ?80k, maybe ?100k. Seems to be a lot of silly money being paid. And most of them we'd hardly miss if they were replaced tomorrow. And there is a very long line of talented people that could.

Really, you'd get someone doing a tedious gig like Casulaty for ?80 k

FFs give the man and his ilk a bonus I'd say. They sedate the nation at approx 7:00pm many nights of the week. Him and others keep my neighbour's indoors and quiet most evenings, filling their heads with guff to chat about later.

"Did you see Casualty , oh blimey ..blah blah blah" at which point I can glaze over and nod accordingly.

I'm happy my money goes to such things.

Timmy Mallet? I suspect he'd want at least a quarter-million.

Anyway, would we really miss all these people? Can you honestly say you actually recognise each and every one of them?

This is public money being used to pay astronomical salaries, some do very nicely and have no idea of reality based on what they earn and must be spending. If these so called "stars" were not as greedy, perhaps the money the beeb gets from license payers would go a whole lot further and services like BBBC 3 would not have been closed.

For Evans it takes over 157,000 licence payers just to pay his wages. Is he really worth that, to be honest NO and neither are most on the list of names in an earlier post. And that is he before those that also have their own production companies.

I suspect what they actually pocket themselves is way above the figures quoted by the beeb. Bet lots of those on top pay will be keeping a very low profile.

Are you suggesting they are paid more by the BBC than quoted, or earn more from other sources?...

I do like crisps as a treat :)

Some things on the BBC are pretty good for the regions even outside news (Dr Who and BBC Wales)

On equal pay - your pay is dependent on what the demand is at the time of negotiations in the private sector - and I assume it's similar at the BBC - so whats happening with women at the BBC - when they negotiate are they being let down by someone (whoever advises them).

A bit of both. For example, Graham Norton's BBC salary doesn't include the money he's paid to host The Graham Norton Show because that's produced by an external company. The likes of Matt LeBlanc and David Attenborough are not on the list at all because they're not directly paid by the BBC, even though Top Gear and the Attenborough documentaries are produced by BBC Worldwide.

It should be called "Imagine Being Paid ?250k To Host A TV Show No One Watches"

You are Viscount Rothermere and I claim my ?10...seriously, do you ever stop and think ooh, I might just be parroting rightwing clich?s here, I'm going to stop and think about what I say instead of jerking my knee the second I see the words BBC, or Muslims, or immigrants, or Labour, or unemployment benefit, or EU, or Polish builders, or any of the other countless groups your bitter hatred towards whom appears to consume you?

RH is always rude to me because

1) He extrapolates my posts to what HE THINKS is being said (and he accuses me of lying which I am not)

2) He knows I am right about the BBC and all the other lefty establishment shyte that gets 'trotted' (geddit?) out every time something happens - and he doesn't like people who do not agree with him

I call you out on here because I find your opinions extraordinarily unpleasant, bigoted and based on falsehoods, some parroted from the usual right/far right sources of misinformation and some blatantly created by yourself (one still recalls with relish the Russian bloke you met in a pub who went into great detail for you about how he was fiddling the benefits system). Your posts frequently disparage immigrants, Muslims, minorities, the working class, "lefties" and basically anyone who isn't you. I don't care if you find my challenging you rude, people like you should be challenged forcefully at every opportunity.

    • My understanding is the "free event" is 100% Gala, nothing to do with the council. Obviously Gala will still make money from the food & drink that they are trying to coerce punters into buying on their social media posts. Their costs will be negligible due to already having the infrastructure in place for Gala. So Gala are trying to appear community minded by providing this "free event", but the real goal is to set a precedent for a fourth day's festival - which surely no one could possibly object to?!? - in preparation for applying (again) for two three-day festivals spread over two weekends. It's only another two days, right, and the site & equipment is already there, so why would anyone object?!? More money for the council, much more money for Gala, win-win right? But yet another week of our park taken away from us, too, and another 18,000 people trampling & littering the park, and another week of disturbance for the native birds & wildlife...
    • Meson Don Felipe on The Cut was my go to place for many years. Though it's now many years since I was there. 10-15 minute walk from the Tate. If you go can you tell me what it's like nowadays?
    • Doubt you would have got much change out of £150.00 for battery and certainly having forked out for it, best to use your car. I recently sold  my car via webuyanycar.com - very pleasant experience & was roughly what I was expecting. Pop your bangers reg jnto their website to get an idea of price - they do send e mails once a fortnight/month just as an aid for you. Easy enough to delete - don’t even have to read valuation. They literally buy any car - if you can’t get it to them, they will charge you to get it there or recommend a co that will do it for you. Must say, mine was a 2014 reg and whilst a bit suspicious, paid extra to get money into my account as needed it for next car but was assured funds had I not gone down route I took would be in my account within 5 days. I now live in the country - every time I have been back to Dulwich and surrounding area, normally get a fine for driving at wrong time or parking at  wrong time so if I drive now, park in West or East Dulwich and do everything else by public transport and walking.  Were I still to be living in ED then before I left was pondering this very issue but since I have been back regularly for health reason I no longer drive but take the train and then buses, walk or Uber. Much cheaper than running a car and had I stayed, that would have been the course I would have taken. I don’t go out everyday, have an allotment or job to go to or family so in my case, would be cheaper not to have a car.  Was truely shocked   at the cost of second hand cars…..but where I now live only has a smattering of buses so no choice but to have wheels to get from A to B etc.
    • If you don't use the car often then suggest disconnect the battery between use by undoing the earth (negative / minus sign) cable from the battery and the battery will then last longer between use. Remember, central locking, alarm, clock, etc won't work with battery disconnected and wit ours I have to lock the doors with central locking before disconnecting battery as only have key on one door (leave bonnet open before locking doors). Hope this helps
