Spin Doctor 'under a dishwasher'

So I read all the 'rave' reviews about the spin doctor and decided to give him a go. Called the the day after he'd got from holiday (earlier this month) and he sounded a tad off, said he was 'stuck under a dish washer'. We arranged the job later for the following week. It was to fix what my tenant described as a 'faulty door' and I was quoted ?55 (thought it was a tad steep but posts about him were so convincing so went with it). He turned up a week later that day and I contacted him to ask if the job had been done to which he said yes (again quite bluntly) and then he asked me for my card details for payment. I asked what the fault was and he said it was just the water switch that has been turned off so I asked if he was still going to charge me ?55 and he said yes (blunt and to the point). I then asked what was with the one word answers to which he said ' he was 'stuck under a dishwasher' (again) and was struggling to multitask.

In short he charged me ?55 to turn a tap on and was extremely rude to boot. I get all this rubbish about call out charges but is it me or are people just damn greedy these days. Suffice to say I won't be using him again so he can stay put under his dishwasher - woeful customer service.

That's generous of you Steve but I hope you don't end up doing that. I think the positives far outweigh the negatives in terms of your attitude and service

If you've ever actually him and seen him work, you'll know he is always juggling phone calls and texts from desperate people with knackered appliances, at the same time as trying to fix whatever he's stuck underneath, and you're feeling upset because he didn't reply in the way you think he should have??? Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

Oh, and by the way, he came to fix our dishwasher ages ago - it was knackered, but he came back twice more to disconnect the old one and fit the new one and only charged me one call out fee. Greedy? I don't think so.

I pay the agreed minimum fee anyway (different contractors) - paid for various things, locking myself out, broken washing machine belt, leaking toilet.

It always comes to ?100 for me for these (small things) - but when I do them myself - its a mess (you want to see my bath sealant attempt :) ).

Steve has fixed our fridge freezer and washing machine. The fridge freezer took some time to fix. The washing machine turned out to be a 5 minute job. Annoyingly, I had missed the 5p that was causing the blockage in the drain pipe when I cleaned it out. Both cost the same, despite one taking an hour, th either taking 5 minutes to put right. I didn't begrudge paying it (although slightly annoyed at myself for missing it) as this is the standard call out fee, regardless of time spent. I don't have no hesitation to keep using Steve as he's genuine, professional and a nice guy

How rude! The point being it's not Steve's fault you were misinformed either!

This is a common problem in the way customers deal with tradesmen, expecting the tradesman's time to be worthless and having no appreciation that a tradesman books-out his time to visit you.

Femster I reckon direct apologies to those you've accused / insulted on this thread are in order.

Time to Man/Woman-Up !

    • The minimum wage hikes on top of the NICs increases have also caused vast swathes of unemployment.
    • Exactly - a snap election will make things even worse. Jazzer - say you get a 'new' administration tomorrow, you're still left with the same treasury, the same civil servants, the same OBR, the same think-tanks and advisors (many labour advisors are cross-party, Gauke for eg). The options are the same, no matter who's in power. Labour hasn't even changed the Tories' fiscal rules - the parties are virtually economically aligned these days.  But Reeves made a mistake in trying too hard, too early to make some seismic changes in her first budget as a big 'we're here and we're going to fix this mess, Labour to the rescue' kind of thing . They shone such a big light on the black hole that their only option was to try to fix it overnight. It was a comms clusterfuck.  They'd perhaps have done better sticking to Sunak's quiet, cautious approach, but they knew the gullible public was expecting an 24-hour turnaround miracle.  The NIC hikes are a disaster, I think they'll be reversed soon and enough and they'll keep trying till they find something that sticks.
    • Totally agree with you.  🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
    • It took the Tories 14 years to dig that 20bn blackhole. It's taken Labour 14 months to double it.  You cant get rid of Reeves though because the next person will actually be totally incompetent. There are no MPs in Labour capable of performing better than the current shower.
