Can I have one?

I am having baby two, two weeks today.

I have a house covered in brick dust post building work (which has over ran and finished late) and have organised for my cleaner to spend the day here tomorrow cleaning the entire place top to toe in anticipation of the new arrival, I have the carpets booked to be shampoo'd first thing Thursday morning ie coinciding with the cleaner's major clean.

The builder, who I waited for for months despite the impending birth as I know he is really good, a nice guy and trustworthy has not come back and finished the last few bits before tomorrow and wants to come tomorrow despite me categorically stating that tomorrow was absolutely no go and everything had to be done before then ie so the clean comes POST build.

Now, the work has over ran by a week, not a massive amount of time I know, but we have cleaning and decorating to do before baby arrives and a totally unmoveable end date - have a C Section. Ive been more than accomodating allowing out of hours work, weekends etc yet it seems this one basic request has fallen on deaf ears!! They want to come tomorrow to which I have said NO!!! Im not happy them coming after at all TBH as there will be a mess AFTER the house and carpets have been cleaned which kinda defeats the object.

I have no car, its at the garage as some chap's foot slipped off the brake whilst we were all sat at red lights and he went into the back of me.

The bloody foxes not only dug up my garden (as per usual every night) but last night shat on my patio table AND my tenants (house out of London) have not paid any rent since January despite renewing the lease immediately beforehand - they did make a part payment last week (20% of rent owed which the agent took most as a renewal fee (bloody cheek).

Oh and I have lost my voice!

The icing on the cake today was some scumbag thief entering my front garden and helping themselves to building stuff that was waiting collection! Not my personal loss but none the less I am less than happy to have thiefs on my property :-(

So much for taking it easy in the run up to having the new baby! Right now I feel like laying on the floor and screaming just like my toddler does when things are not going her way............ My toddler who has been playing up no end due to being wholly unimpressed by the interruption builders bring to her routine!

Grrrrr am I just pregnant and letting things get to me or is this a normal run of general life? I feel like hibernating and waking up once everything sorted and baby here !!!

Blimey, that all sounds horrific, poor you. I remember feeling much the same when I was pregnant with no.2, as we were in the middle of moving house, plus of course I was still working and looking after a toddler, and trying to sort out a new nursery for my eldest/home-birth team for the birth for the new area (we were moving from north of the river). We ended up moving exactly two weeks before my daughter was born, at the new home, in amongst the packing boxes! Horribly stressful, esp. as we only got the completion date agreed v. late in the day so I had no idea whether we were going to be here or in north London when the baby came.

The one benefit of being preggers when all this was going on is that you do become very focused, quite rightly, on your own needs as the due date approaches - there was one point in our moving-house process when it all started going tits up because someone was messing about further up the chain, and I had the most massive 'I am woman, hear me roar' tantrum, threatening to pull out of the whole deal and break the chain myself, which I never would have dared to do normally. I think everyone could see I really meant it - I had that wild-eyed pregnant woman look about me.

Anyway, it worked. I'd advise doing a bit of roaring myself if I was in your shoes; sounds like you need hearing. Hope it all works out OK - I'm sure once the baby arrives, all this will recede v quickly (and hopefully become your partner's problem...).

Yes you're allowed a rant. Sounds dreadful. Can you try to get a massage/spa day before baby comes as once they arrive it will feel like you haven't had a break. My eldest was born amid a kitchen extension/garden dig overrunning and I woke up one day at 8 + months pregnant and screamed at everyone to the point that every builder left the house (tea mugs in hand and all). Building work is the worst thing because all you want to be doing is nesting and placing newly washed babygros into their appropriate drawers! I do wish you the best of luck and don't stress and good luck in two weeks.

Thank you :-)

Have calmed down a bit now (without full on tantrum thankfully) perhaps the medicinal small glass of wine I had with dinner may have helped!!

Certainly feel's as though it never rains but it pours but then I think about the positives and can't help but think that none of that lot really matters in the grand scale of things! Bring on the pooping foxes ;-)

Will get back to painting the kitchen now :-)

Glad it's not just me :-)

Builder definitely got roared at this evening.... almost felt sorry for him but then he should know better than to cross an 8 1/2 mth pregnant woman!!

Totally relate to the clean babygro's in the correct drawers, I have been busy washing everything that moves and drying on the line in this lovely weather - have vacuum packed clean babygros until Thursday when I hope we will be blissfully dust free.... after my roaring tonight we will def be dust free just may not have the snagging done ;-)

I totally feel for you, our extension over ran by about 3 months despite me being increasingly pregnant. In the end they finished when I was about 38 weeks (good thing I went to 42 weeks) and in the end I couldn't even look at the builder let alone speak to him! I think it was the lack of consideration or even aknowledgement that I was so close to popping that really got to me...

Well done on venting to them, I hope the next few weeks are a bit more smooth for you & once the little one arrives you will forget it ever happened!

this really made me smile, thank you!

Good luck nesting. For some reason, I managed to have the house in builder chaos for both my babies. Duh.

    • In what way? Maybe it just felt more intelligent and considered coming directly after Question Time, which was a barely watchable bun fight.
    • Yes, all this. Totally Sephiroth. The electorate wants to see transformation overnight. That's not possible. But what is possible is leading with the right comms strategy, which isn't cutting through. As I've said before, messaging matters more now than policy, that's the only way to bring the electorate with you. And I worry that that's how Reform's going to get into power.  And the media LOVES Reform.
    • “There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda ” I would call this “generous”   Labour should never have made that tax promise because, as with - duh - Brexit, it’s pretending the real world doesn’t exist now. I blame Labour in no small part for this delusion. But the electorate need to cop on as well.  They think they can have everything they want without responsibilities, costs or attachments. The media encourage this  Labour do need to raise taxes. The country needs it.  Now, exactly how it’s done remains to be seen. But if people are just going to go around going “la la laffer curve. Liars! String em up! Vote someone else” then they just aren’t serious people reckoning with the problem yes Labour are more than a year into their term, but after 14 years of what the Tories  did? Whoever takes over, has a major problem
    • Messaging, messaging, messaging. That's all it boils down to. There are only so many fiscal policies out there, and they're there for the taking, no matter which party you're in. I hate to say it, but Farage gets it right every time. Even when Reform reneges on fiscal policy, it does it with enough confidence and candidness that no one is wringing their hands. Instead, they're quietly admired for their pragmatism. Strangely, it's exactly the same as Labour has done, with its manifesto reverse on income tax, but it's going to bomb.  Blaming the Tories / Brexit / Covid / Putin ... none of it washes with the public anymore  - it wants to be sold a vision of the future, not reminded of the disasters of the past. Labour put itself on the back foot with its 'the tories fucked it all up' stance right at the beginning of its tenure.  All Lammy had to do (as with Reeves and Raynor etc) was say 'mea culpa. We've made a mistake, we'll fix it. Sorry guys, we're on it'. But instead it's 'nothing to see here / it's someone else's fault / I was buying a suit / hadn't been briefed yet'.  And, of course, the press smells blood, which never helps.  Oh! And Reeve's speech on Wednesday was so drab and predictable that even the journalists at the press conference couldn't really be arsed to come up with any challenging questions.
