Nigello
Saw one at the bus stop at the CoOp chemist on LL and another on Underhill at the P13 stop opposite the old people's home. Is that part of a Cleaner, Greener, Safer campaign? Glad they're useful. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/168681-new-benches/ Share on other sites

Sue
I think they're great! The first time I saw the one near the bus stop, I thought somebody had moved it from North Cross Road! But apparently they are concreted to the pavement. The woman who has the silver jewellery stall in the market is most upset about the seat because it is opposite her stall and she says people sit on it and eat.I don't understand why this should affect her, as there is loads of room between the seat and her stall. If anything, I would have thought it might have encouraged more custom from the people eating, as they can peruse her jewellery from afar whilst having their lunch :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/168681-new-benches/#findComment-1179713 Share on other sites

James Barber
Yes they've been funded by East Dulwich ward councillors allocating some of our devolved capital Cleaner, Greener, Safer funding.Cllr Charlie Smith came up with the idea Cllr Rosie Shimell and I supported it and have done much of the councillor leg work to make them happen. singalto
I think they are great and can't see why a market stall holder, who is only there one day a week, should object. macutd
thanks Jamesany chance of one near the shops opposite east Dulwich hospital. Nigello
I hope they will be maintained. It is inevitable that they will get tagged, unfortunately. Is it possible to get Southwark to work with POSos or others to report any vandalism? Could they be painted with a varnish that makes it easier for grime and paint to be removed easily? Lynne
I think it's a good idea in principle, but why anyone would want to sit on a bench facing LL, I don't know unless they were attempting slow suicide by air poisoning. Seabag
Can we have one/some of those Urban Pianos too. Not anywhere near my house of course, but on Goose Green and in the Market area. And one outside of Franklins would be nice. DulwichFox
It looked like the Jewellery lady had claimed possession of said bench on Saturday by draping a large piece of fabric over it and securing it with a large crocodile clip thingy. Was bound to happen.. DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/168681-new-benches/#findComment-1180597 Share on other sites
dbboy
They are a great resting place if you are old and need to rest or likewise infirm or perhaps have a medical condition and a good place to stop and catch your breath, Well done Councillors a fab idea and installation. Yes, a piano in the market area, now that could be fun. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/168681-new-benches/#findComment-1180611 Share on other sites
