All, please be on your guard and be extra- vigilant. Our house was broken into during the night. They managed to break through the security locks on one of the sashes at the front of the house and prise the window open.

The dog woke me up aroynd 2am barking wildkt. I went downstairs to unvestigate but nothing amiss and alarm still set. A short while later the house alarm went off and I got up again and did a full inspection. I even went outside but didnt see anything. Funnily enough the dog was sniffing at the front window but I assumed it was just a cat.

Anyway, on my way back in fron morning walk I saw the sash window completely open. When I went inside it had been busted completely.... Very creepy..

They must have busted the window and heard the noise of me and dog getting up and then when rhe coast was clear, try to finish off. Lucky for me to have motiob sensors in all rooms - and a big dog and an even bigger cricket bat.

Very daring indeed to come in through a front window in a street with traffic.

Please check your security and if you were thinking of getting an alarm but couldn't decide which one, get out there and buy it. I dread to think what would have happened if the alarm hadnt gone off. I dont trust myself around intruders in my home and ironically would probably end up in court myself....

I have called the police and they are due this morning. Anyone recommend a good sash replacement specialist who does emergency jobs? I aint leaving until this place is like Strangeways...

We also live on Therapia, I have a security camera, but only check the recordings if I hear of anything untoward, or notice anything unusual on or around our house the next day. Thanks for the info, will probably check the camera more often, however nothing out of the ordinary appeared on it last night only the milkman at 02:48.
Hi Frankito, Very sorry too to hear about your experience and thanks for posting, we too live on Therapia. Could be my usual paranoia but thought I heard our front gate open around 4am.....looked out but couldn't see anything....will be extra vigilant (paranoid!) from now on..

We've previously talked a bit about window locks and breaking windows open at http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,537002

    • Let’s not all get scared of the foxes now. Most likely explanation is protecting its den or association with food. We have foxes, and cats and they are no bother to each other. The fox will leave when the cats are out.
    • I remember seeing something a few years ago on TV about a fox that was actually biting through people's shopping / takeaway food bags.  It was situated in an alleyway.  Not in London.  Very interesting in how the  urban foxes brain development has  been affected by their surroundings.   Not an exact quote from Darwin.  It's the adaptable that survive / not the strongest or the most intelligent.   I would be worried if a fox came close me.   Because they might be after my fur babies and they carry a lot of nasties.   Although they look beautiful from a distance or on a 🎄 card.
    • Driving down Lordship lane around 2.45pm today saw a v sick looking fox walking in and out of the crowd.
    • I know I'm a bit premature but don't want to forget through too much Chrisntas cheer! Southwark Council Christmas trees recycling arrangements 2025 - bit worrying for the future that they're emphasising the free bit. "We’ll collect and recycle your real Christmas tree for free!  Trees should not be taller than 5ft. You should chop any taller trees into smaller pieces. Remove all decorations and the pot or stand and recycle it by: putting your tree with your garden waste containers on collection day requesting a free collection if you do not have a garden waste collection  taking it to our Reuse and Recycling Centre [43 Devon Street, SE15 1AL open 08:30-16:30 Mon-Sun] If you live in a flat you must leave the tree: outside on the kerb visible for the collection crew not in a bin store" I'll add the link to the collection booking service when it opens on 22 December.
