They seem to absolutely love drumming at Alleyn's school with little care or consideration for local residents as they send their students marching round and round the field banging their big drums as loud as they can. Grrrr.

EDIT:

Apologies - as others suggested (below), I didn't connect the context and wouldn't have posted about it for this solemn occasion. Mis-timed complaint about something that happens throughout the year.

Others gave their lives so that you had the freedom of speech. Rememberance Sunday is one day in the year when we show our respect to those that served and remember all those who died in war.

This morning over 300 cadets and officers from Dulwich College and Alleyn's schools, witnessed by their families and the residents of Dulwich, paraded and marched. The young men and women of those schools have shown dignity, integrity and respect this morning. It is poignant that this happens to also be the first Rememberance parade since Dulwich College Army section re badged to the Welsh Guards in recognition of Lt Mark Evison from the Welsh Guards, a former pupil of Dulwich College, who sadly was killed in 2009 from action in Afghanistan.

I hope that people will think before they post messages on the forum that may offend others.

I agree, the OP's made a very crass mistake, obviously, and is probably deeply embarrassed by it. If s/he had objected to Remembrance Day specifically then the lectures above would be deserved, as it is edhistory's correction would have sufficed.

Agree. But following your logic, shouldn't Peckhampam's point also have sufficed?...

Touch?! Fair point - guess I was planning to say something myself, saw PP's comment so, already in commenting mode, agreed. Though to be fair (to myself) nothing that wrong with agreeing with someone; what was wrong about the succession of replies to the OP was that we went from "Don't be silly it's Remembrance Day" to accusations of disrespect and offensiveness.

Have you never made a mistake in your life? Get over yourself.

I think that was sarcasm

    • Its that time of year again, past Christmas day and late delayed cards are turning up. How late are your cards arriving ?  Last year I had one delivered 4 weeks late. Can that be beaten this year ?
    • Sadly, a lot of businesses didn't invite reviews on the EDF at that time due to a number of "negative nellies" that would take delight in posting unfavourable comments, often despite never being to the business in question.  No matter how good the place was, some posters would find fault that wasn't there "don't lile the colour of the bidet set in the private bathroom, avocado 😅" Can hardly blame businesses at the time for not wanting reviews on here, thankfully that has mostly changed now.
    • Was that the Hare Krishna place? I can't remember exactly where it was (or maybe still is) but it was somewhere around Oxford Street.
    • The "for sale" section on this forum lets people offer things for free or cheaply. And the "wanted" section let's people ask for things they want or need, for free or cheaply. There are also existing schemes like Freecycle, and also local  food banks. And there is (or was) a local scheme where you can bring things to be repaired free. I think it is/was based in Nunhead. Isn't that simpler than having a barter system? You might have something to give away, but the person who wants it might not have anything you want. Or have I misunderstood how it works? I can see that offering services free might not fit into existing schemes, but depending on what they were, what would happen if things went horribly wrong eg someone wrecked your house? Sorry if the above sounds very negative.
