Marmora Man
Is it safe to drink Pimms with cucumber slices? This could seriously affect my summer bar b q's. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17600-pimms-cucumber-e-coli/ Share on other sites
Frankito
Yes, double up on the Pimms and replace the cucumber with courgette; it's all in the detail my friend. Marmora Man
Ah, the old "alcohol as as a disinfectant" approach. I tend to use this with great success in the winter - a glass of good Scotch disinfects the upper throat, keeping colds and coughs at bay - or alternatively contributing to curing colds & coughs. It's a multi functional excuse to drink good Scotch. MelC
Surely British cucumbers are safe, otherwise why do we teach kids to put condoms on them in sex ed classes? mockney piers
"Also love my G &T with a couple of slices actually"I take it you mean Hendrick's Gin in which case this is a perfectly acceptable practice, otherwise it's just wrong wrong wrong!! LadyDeliah
I was told recently that the quinine in tonic thickens the blood and increases your chances of heart attack. I am mortified by thus news, as my favourite tipple is G&T! Guest
Apparently cucumber has been exonerated. They now think it may have been lettuce or tomatoes. Doesn't Germany still spray human sewage on its fields as fertiliser? Brendan
Will we be bbqing on bonfires of burning cucumbers, lettuce and tomatoes this summer then? What are the women going to make the salad from? In my G & T it's lovely. *It's the lettuce, always the lettuce. Nero
It's marketing claptrap on the part of Hendricks to say that only it can be savoured with cucumber. I add tangerine zest to my gin, or a splash of beetroot juice, or some rosemary. Enjoy! Marmora Man
Helena - particularly when it's Plymouth with angastura bitters and no ice - the classic pink gin. helena handbasket
Oh yes do love the Plymouth. Haven't tried it with bitters though, sounds like I now have a plan for the weekend. Is it sad when "drinking gin" is your plan for the weekend? Marmora Man
Helena - not if it involves drinking gin with friends. Or drinking gin alone, because you've chosen to be so, with a good book in hand, a DVD on TV or in a chair in the garden sunshine. mockney piers
Sounds pretty happy to me.Gin is the noblest of boozes.Whisky the classiest and rum the, errr, funnest?Vodka is simply cheating, fit only for lurid drinks. katie1997
helena handbasket Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Isn't gin wonderful?helena - yay! Same as you, I sometimes throw in some cucumber to the mix. I really like Tanqueray, also partial to Plymouth and the London one with the Beefeater on the label. Not so keen on Bombay Sapphire for some reason. Haven't tried Hendricks yet. What happened to gin palaces? ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17600-pimms-cucumber-e-coli/#findComment-441350 Share on other sites
Applespider
I currently have Hendricks and Tanqueray 10 on the go since they suit different moods. Hendricks is more gentle. The Tanqueray 10 is perfect on a Friday night when I really want a G&T. It has to be Fevertree tonic though - so much nicer than Schweppes or Britvic.Sipsmith's gin is also rather nice. And I once had a bottle of Junipero gin which is made in San Francisco by the people who make one of my favourite beers, Anchor Steam, which was rather good too - quite aromatic but robust.I do like Pimms but had a few Pimms accidents a few summers back so I'm now banned by my friends from making jugs. I intentionally introduced one group to Pimms Royale (where you replace the lemonade with champagne/cava) and inadvertently introduced another group to Pimms Mexicana (where you replace the lemonade with doctored stuff that someone had previously added tequila to) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17600-pimms-cucumber-e-coli/#findComment-441359 Share on other sites
