LoopyMum
Hi ! We are considering home schooling our 13 year old daughter and would like to get in contact with any local parents who are doing the same. Any thoughts and suggestions would be more than welcome and we would love to know if there is a local support group for small groups of children to learn together / group tutoring? All advice, recommendations and tips most welcome :))Selena Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17609-home-schooling-local-support-groups-small-tutor-groups/ Share on other sites

suniil
We are also seriously considering this as an option for our daughter, if she doesn't get into a (music) school of her choice Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17609-home-schooling-local-support-groups-small-tutor-groups/#findComment-445806 Share on other sites
BB100
I do know of a home schooled group of teenagers in SE23. I will let them know. Otta
I have a friend who has home schooled his daughter, and a chat with him dispelled all the reservations I would've had, such as "won't they miss out on the social side?". Apparently she has loads of friends through the sorts of tutoring groups you're interested in. Best of luck, and keep us informed, as it's something that we're already considering for the future. LoopyMum
Thanks for all your messages ! I thought I was alone in the wilderness ! BB100 - We live in Forest Hill so that would be FAB if you could make contact with the group you know of. Suniil - It was something we thought was totally ridiculous to begin with but have now come to the conclusion it maybe our only way forward, given our circumstances. Otta - The friend you have who home schools their daughter it would be much appreciated if we could arrange or meet or just a discussion over the phone. We would love to meet someone who has extensive experience of home schooling. Please guys any help out there - am happy to arrange a group meeting for any parents currently home schooling or considering for the future ........:)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17609-home-schooling-local-support-groups-small-tutor-groups/#findComment-446043 Share on other sites

KristinH
our son schools online, www.interhigh.co.uk - great concept as he follows national curriculum, working towards IGCSE's. Only 2hrs school per day, real time classes and also class mates, lovely teachers and the whole school meet in Wales once per year. Happy to chat with anyone interested. I'd be interested in meeting other home school year 9 families - please email if you can help. There's also a home school group who meet at Dulwich Woods scout hut on Monday and Wednesday mornings with science, english, maths and I think perhaps history or geography (not sure if all these subjects run for all ages) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17609-home-schooling-local-support-groups-small-tutor-groups/#findComment-446284 Share on other sites

LoopyMum
I would like to know further details of the scout hut meets too and would like to meet others. Lots of friendly suggestions but it would be fantastic to meet and discuss in detail both parents and children who are in the home school loop. Happy to have a meeting of some sort in our home or arrange a public place to meet - local to all included ! lotusflower7
Hello! We are looking into home schooling or ideally a small school in the area and would really appreciate it if anyone can provide any information on these two alternative methods of education. Our son who is 14 is not, we feel suited to a large secondary school but we are only now starting to think about alternatives.Any help and info that you can provide would be great - eg how it has been if you have been home schooling, do you meet up with any other families doing the same to share the schooling and whether there are any small schools. Many thanks. (feel free to PM me) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17609-home-schooling-local-support-groups-small-tutor-groups/#findComment-533191 Share on other sites
Hilary Galezia
Hello -I see you posted about home-schooling in Dulwich a couple of years ago - I've just arrived in the Uk and am starting to home school my daughter (aged 12) and so far it seems that all the nearest groups ( except the one at the Dulwich scout hut on Mondays, which is full) are in Bromley and Lewisham. Did you find anything round Dulwich? Or if not would you (or anyone else you know) be interested in trying to set some up (I'm thinking of small tutor groups, but also other stuff like sport, art and design etc.)Please do get back to me if you have any leads or interest in starting anything, thanks so much!
