DulwichFox
Yep.. was watching a program recently (Day time morning TV) A guy got fined because he dropped a 'Chip' from a bag of chips he was eating. ?80 DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/176730-fines-for-dropping-cigarettes-in-brixton-near-the-station/#findComment-1202982 Share on other sites
Loz
I have a little sympathy for the chip-dropper if he didn't notice. But the ciggie chucker? Good. Maybe they'll think twice next time. Robert Poste's Child
It's not unreasonable and I think it's great if they're trying to improve the way people treat that stretch of road, which is a magnet for antisocial behaviour. It would be great if they could do more about the number of people who blatantly avoid paying to use the tube, though. hammerman
The fines for dropping cigarettes have been around for at least a couple of years now. Earl Aelfheah
?80 is a lot of money and could really hurt some people. Surely giving people a warning and making them dispose of it properly would be more proportionate. DulwichFox
We have become a nation of Fines... Especially if you are a Motorist. Many of which are like congestion and pollution for which it is 'O Kay as long as you Pay' If you drive a car, I'll tax the street, If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat. If you get too cold I'll tax the heat, If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.Foxy Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/176730-fines-for-dropping-cigarettes-in-brixton-near-the-station/#findComment-1203052 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
For someone struggling to make ends meet, getting an ?80 could really tip them over the edge... just for dropping a chip. It's ridiculous. Earl Aelfheah
No one should drop litter and people doing so should be challenged. But ?80 is not a trivial amount of money for many and seems quite disproportionate. triumph
It's not supposed to be a trivial amount. Quite rightly, it's supposed to be a deterrent. Drop the litter once, get fined, don't drop the litter again. A good use of a financial deterrent. Earl Aelfheah
So ?50 if you leave sh1t on the street, but ?80 for a cigerette butt? DulwichFox
The problem with cigarette butts is that despite popular belief, they are NOT biodegradable. The problem is with the filters. They are made of Synthetic Polymer Cellulose Acetate .. These break down into tiny particles and pollute the water table, get into the oceans and get digested by marine Creatures.DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/176730-fines-for-dropping-cigarettes-in-brixton-near-the-station/#findComment-1203186 Share on other sites
bobbsy
So let's say you drop something and someone tries to give you a fine - why would you give them your details and not just walk off? In principle I would have thought it was fly-tipping as the storm drain is not a waste receptacle for public use.
