its hardly a tunnel its more or less an underpass under the railway line but as a young buck returning to hambledon court from the bright lights of lordship lane it was a bit of a godsend, saved me having to walk the whole way round to st francis road.

"So what is still left of the hospital (i.e. what wards/clinics and would you ever choose any over those in King's) and are there any plans to revive it? Those blue fences/boards used to make me think redevelopment work was going on..."

A new community hospital is being built there. Information here: http://www.dulwichcommunityhospital.nhs.uk/

The bit that was demolished to make way for the Community hospital included the old surgical wards Ruskin (male) and Paxton (female), the physiotherapy suite, the Renal Unit and East Home which housed the nurses accommodation and various offices (oh what fun we had flooding those!). Much of the rest of the buildings remain but with 'community' services rather than acute stuff. The X-ray is still there at the other end along with phlebotomy (taking blood samples) and is where you go for all GP related tests as you cannot get them done at Kings anymore.

Thank you Oglandia!!

Just to confirm that one tunnel runs between Maudsley and Kings. Not sure where it starts at KCH, but at Maudsley it is the high security area for obvious reasons!!I always thought it was in the 1st or 2nd building in The Institute of Psychiatry in DeCrespigny Pk.

There is a tunnel which runs from KCH to Dulwich Hosp.

The victorians built many of these tunnels. London is renowned for them especially those used by royalty and MP's. One from Buck Hse to Admiralty arch, and then thru to Westminster via Downing St

Also the underground mail train!!! Loads of secret tunnels eh!!!! AND not just confined to London either................Many big towns have them

Hold on a minute. Whilst I have the capacity to accept that (given some evidence of any tunnels) that it/they do exist I thought it was too damn difficult to tunnel in south east London. Well thats what they keep telling us as the reason there are no tube lines in this area.

Any tunnel between Kings and the Maudsley would have to be fairly old - but for what reason and why to th institute which has been virtually completely redeveloped. It is unlikely to have remained THAT much of a secret.

I will believe it if there is some evidence.

    • Hey all 👋 I’m fairly new to running and have (perhaps ambitiously!) signed myself up for a half marathon later this year. I’d love to find a few others who are also just starting out and fancy running together in a relaxed, non-intimidating way.  The idea would be a very low-key, beginner-friendly run club — lots of jogging, walking breaks totally welcome, zero pressure on pace or distance. I’m particularly keen to create a small, supportive group for women who might feel more comfortable running as part of a group, especially around the park. I was thinking of doing gentle runs around Peckham Rye Park to start with. If that sounds like something you’d be up for, give me a shout — would be lovely to see if there’s enough interest to get something going 😊

    • I would think so too but surely they are losing money now anyways from not building for so long
    • From what I’ve researched online, they aren’t issuing any opportunities for sub post office licenses in this area for ages so LL is so stressed out. If this is ever going to improve they need to start allowing applications for licenses in this area so complaining may be helpful if anyone can do this when they have time using the link from above? It’s very annoying indeed using LL especially when collecting
