Fences on Dog Kennel Hill

Does anybody know why the took all the fences down on the Dog Kennel Estate? Apparently they were made out of second world war stretchers. It seems a shame to lose them!

Yes, they are (were) stretcher railings. Some were a bit mangled, but most were repairable. It?s a shame they are gone.

I think a few are left on Quorn road?

I know, I miss them when walking past every day.

I heard at the time they were removed (last summer) that it was something to do with lead in the paint, or the railings? and that the maintenance costs to prevent any public health risk was too high for the council.
