Ernie&Kopka
Hello! I have another question...I cannot find any threads on this so could anyone share their opinion on nappy tubs such as Sangenic etc...? Worth having or is it just another gadget one can go without...? I have under 6 weeks left before baby E&K is due and this is one of the things i just cannot decide on.Thanks in advance ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18400-advice-please-nappy-disposal-systemget-it-or-not/ Share on other sites
Lochie
found ours useful at first but think we got rid of it after 6 weeks. We just use nappy sacks and a normal bin - and were we to have another one wouldn't bother with the nappy disposal systems. Although I believe they are pretty much free as you get a voucher for one in the newborn Bounty set you get given at the hospital?? If that is the case you may as well get one....sorry not much help!! In the main I would say stick to nappy sacks and a bin!!! jennyh
I got a second-hand one a few weeks ago from the forum. Before we had a small bin which would get filled up each day and need emptying which was a bit of a chore. We have a sangenic one now and it can store about a weeks worth of nappies which is great (my daughter is 5 months so a newborn would prob produce more nappies!. It definitely keeps the smell inside but then it is worse when you have to empty a weeks worth of nappies because when you do open it, it smells really bad!! I am happy we have ours purely because it saves constant trips to the bin and my flat doesn't smell of wee (or worse!) but it isn't a must have by any means. A decent sized bin with a lid and nappy sacks would do just as well! srisky
Similar to jennyh. We have the angelcare system and find it very useful - it keeps the smells locked in (even if we left the lid open for several hours) and saves emptying out the bin several times a week (or even day, depending on how old your baby is and how frequently they poo). Our doesn't smell at all when we empty it but I don't know if that's to do with the type of bin or our baby's poo (although the latter can be pretty stinky)! By no means a must have but very useful if you live in a flat or if it's pain to get to your wheelie bin on a regular basis. Dorothy
I never wanted one - but it wasn't too onerous for me to put nappies straight in to the outside bin, I appreciate that that's different if you live in a flat or have mobility issues. By the way, if you line the nappies with a disposable nappy liner and flush that away after each pooey change then the whole thing of having nappies in the wheelie bin becomes a lot less unpleasant. Growlybear
I had a Sangenic many years ago when my daughter was a baby, and it was one of the best pieces of equipment I invested in. I used it constantly while she was in nappies. ryedalema
I can see the benefit of having one if you live in a flat, but we just use nappy bags and put them straight outside in the big bin (poor bin men). I know they are hygienic and all but I'm not sure i'd like the thought of having that much poo (sorry TMI) inside the home, locked away and smell-free or not :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18400-advice-please-nappy-disposal-systemget-it-or-not/#findComment-454602 Share on other sites
Ernie&Kopka
Wow! Thanks Mums...;OOk, so we'll try to go without, to begin with then, see if we can bear the "sweet" smell of my newborn's poop! Having up to 28 nappies in one bin(this is the amount of nb size nappies that apparently can be stored) is rather overwhelming so with Ryedalema on this one AND can only imagine the eyes watering whiff whilst emptying it as Jennyh mentioned...I shall report back in a few weeks time if all goes to plan.Thank you all again ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/18400-advice-please-nappy-disposal-systemget-it-or-not/#findComment-454632 Share on other sites
ladywotlunches
We have one, and had one with our first too (had to change it because of the lingering whiff even after countless antibac cleans and 4 years!!).My LO is just 10 months now, and after several trips to Sainsburys to find that they are still out of stock of the 3 packs (which at the moment are just slightly more expensive than a single wrapper) I've given up for a while and are using sainsburys basics nappy sacks at about 7p for 100! Much cheaper, and I'm just slinging them in the the sangenic bin, so it still holds the same number of nappies, and keeps the smell contained. So maybe try it, (like someone said they are pretty much free as they make their money on the wrappers) and if you don't get on with it, you have a slimline, high capacity bin with lid! new mother
We always flushed away anything that could be flushed- much more sanitary, surely? (Actually, I think that is what Hoya re supposed to do.) scotch
I bought one and realised what a waste of many with all of the refills you have to buy for it. Nappy bags and bin is just as good!! Sold mine for 50p on car boot!!!
