Sue
Having a roof over my head.Having a functioning heating system and enough money to pay for it.Having a kettle and a toaster, tea and bread.Having warm bedding.Having food in the house and not having to worry about not being able to afford food for others. Not having to go out onto slippery pavements.Thinking of all those who are not so lucky xOh, and apart from the snow, and despite all the hideous things wrong in this country at the moment, grateful that it is unlikely that I will be bombed in my own home, that my grandkids will be shot in their own classroom, or that I will be a person fleeing a desperate situation in their own country who no other country is willing to take in. DulwichFox
Why don't you put a poster up on Lordship Lane so all those who are on the streets and will not see this post will know that someone is thinking about them. DulwichFox
Sue.. So you do Charitable things and you are telling us all about it. When I did something similar, I was branded about being Narcissistic and it being all about me. IE when I mentioned about my own fund raising for The RNLI and RNIB. and Diabetes UK. I too am grateful for my own situation which is similar to yours. Got very little food in the house though so I will HAVE to venture out. DulwichFox. Louisa
I agree with the sentiments of the OP. Lots of elderly people alone in cold conditions afraid to put the heating on. Many on the streets in freezing conditions, relying on the generosity of others. Unless you?ve been in a dark place both financially and mentally, it?s hard to appreciate the things many of us take for granted. I am truly grateful for my situation of being able to put the gas on and keep warm without worrying about the cost (within reason). I do take exception at the pack mentality against the fox on here though, as per. He does a lot of things for the local community and is vilified and made out to be narcissistic by the usual suspects. Others, who take a similar approach are treated with respect and admiration. The ?look at me? mentality and attention seeking rears it?s ugly head once more.Louisa. malumbu
Is this a light-hearted thread? If so it's been nice to light a fire, not bother about going out, work from home, go sledging at the HornimanIf it is a serious thread. Struth, this is not extreme weather. We are truly rubbish in the SE. It was worse over winters 08 - 10 etc etc. It will be gone by Saturday. Never missed one day of school through snow and only one day of work when Britain was properly frozen in 1981/2If it is a nasty thread, to quote John Simm, in Collateral, we really are turning into a nasty little country Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/184268-things-i-am-grateful-for-this-snowy-day/#findComment-1225025 Share on other sites
DulwichFox
I read Sue's Original Post and thought how condescending it sounded. Apart from those on the street, there may well be people here on EDF struggling and not able to turn up the heating. In fact there have been on many occasions people in need of simple thing like a Kettle or a Toaster. Sue. Enjoy your Tea and Toast. Quince Jam. ?? Very insensitive post. Read it again.ETA: The heating part was because somebody was posting on the Nunhead Facebook page yesterday that her boiler had broken and she had three children under four, including two under two.All the council could do was say somebody would call but they couldn't say what time, so she couldn't even take the children somewhere warmer because she had to stay in for the boiler person. I really felt for her.A load of local people independently posted on the page offering to take round electric fires etc to her. That is what community spirit is, Dulwich Fox.
