This summer will be taking a different shape as our new addition will arrive early July. We would like to go somewhere at the end of August. Centerparcs aside can you recommend any other destinations that would suit a (very) active and sociable 6 year old, us parents and a newborn. Some water would be great either beach or water park type stuff

Bournemouth beach is beautiful. It?s won lots of awards. We stay at the Marriott Eastcliff which is at the top of a vehicular, great fun for our 5 yr old boy. If you are there a few days it?s fun to rent a traditional beach hut on the beach to make your own tea and lunch etc. There is also a very excellent pool about 1tmins drive away that had about 10mwater slides. Many suitable for non swimming children which is unusual.
And we've had several brilliant trips to Edinburgh - usually stay in South Queensferry so kids can play on the beach / rockpools. It's a quick train/drive into the city centre where there's obviously loads to do (especially in August with the Festival - there's masses on for kids). And in the surrounding area, there's the zoo, country parks, aquarium and great day trips to castles/North Berwick etc.

    • These neighbours dislike trees period. They refused to have lost trees replaced by the Estate on our communal green. They don’t like the leaf and seed droppings. These make the grass look ‘messy’. Similarly, they don’t like my policy of leaving the tree leaves where they lie on the grass verge - hence chopping the overhanging branches. It’s like living in the 1950s. My neighbours have three gardeners with leaf blowers who come twice weekly to remove every leaf from their front lawns. Their grass is cut weekly and all the  cuttings put in multiple brown bins. It’s an outdated mindset of the moneyed classes in my view. But sadly, I’m very much in the minority.
