Riot vans (driving through) Dulwich

I just counted 15 police riot vans speeding down East Dulwich COmmon with all their sirens on. Anyone know whats up? No riots on the news tonight so curious what's happening.

Confirm that I too saw these out my window. It's probably nothing - but reassuring to see their response even if is something minor!

Heard something is happening towards Herne Hill. Don't know for a fact though.

Dulwich common is end of Lordship Lane. They were coming from Forest Hill, turning at Harvester then down DUlwich Common. Now the traffic is backed up and more police cars with sirens trying to get through.

Lots of officers coming on for the night shift around this time - could just be moving resources around. 16,000 police need a lot of transport, so the sirens go on to save time.

I wouldn't be suprised if the police use the sirens just to remind everyone that they're around....

The Police are not allowed to use sirens unless they are going to an incident. The same is true for all the emergency services. If the sirens are on then the officers are resonding to something.

They're in clapham now, triggering the usual hysterical tweets about things "kicking off", i.e. nothing happening.

Pretty sure they'll be relaxing that siren rule this week...

Why relax the rule? (it's law btw). There is absolutely no reason to speed around with sirens or lights unless there is a call to respond to and imagine if an accident happened as a result - the Police would be sued - that's why the 'emergency only' rule applies.

I'd say the reason is they have five times more officers on duty than usual and are almost certainly short on transport and time. Doesn't seem very clever to have hundreds of officers sitting at traffic lights.

Anyway, my point was it could be anything and not to get unduly alarmed, as they say.

I think the moment youths congregate there will be an instant response atm...and also they are arresting people too....all very jumpy.
