I like the look of Judy. I might chat to her at the next EDF drinks - we seem to have a lot in common.

Dear Arsene

I know it's tough at/near the top but losing to Wigan in that way has made resurrect my other interest

Peanuts of course

Have a browse your self, maybe we could grow a peanut trophy all of our own for next year

If not, it's a healthy "distraction" from this seasons crop

Grrrrr....

W**F

The intensity of Inter's tackling and general pressurising was good to see and Barca looked like they believed they only had to show up.

Before the game I had a few quids on Inter to win the CL:

Inter 5.51 ?50.00 ?225.50

Like most other bets, I don't expect to win on this one - but at least I had some faith in Inter - these were probably the 2 best teams playing in the semi rather than the final.

Bit further for us compared to Barca/Inter and I do expect it will have an impact.

Think we're cursed when it comes to Atletico! Last season Torres was injured and it was touch and go if the fans could go due to Atletico being made to play behind closed doors. UEFA made the right decision not many days before it was due to be played. Quite a few lads have booked people carriers due to flights etc being cancelled - hopefully by Thursday it will be sorted.

Be afraid Liverpool fans, be very afraid. Torres is odds on to have played his last game.

"Following the news that Fernando Torres is set to miss the remainder of Liverpool's season, having undergone a knee operation, WilliamHill have slashed the odds of the Spaniard never featuring again for the Reds from 7/2 to 8/15.

With cash expected to be tight at Anfield this summer, and rumours over the future of the man who brought the striker to the club, Rafael Benitez, Hills are clearly expecting Torres to jump ship during the summer transfer window.

The firm's spokesman Graham Sharpe told Bettingpro...

'We believe Torres is an odds-on chance to leave Liverpool before the start of next season'"

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
