The 176 bus (has the service got extremely bad?)

Recommended Posts

I used to use the 176 a lot - but it became so unreliable in the evening rush hour (4:30 to 7:00) (buses marked for Tottenham Court Road when in Dulwich were always terminating on Waterloo Bridge/Strand) that I could no longer rely on it at all for journeys. On occasion I have even had two driver change-overs on one trip - although that was very unusual. I stopped using it for any trip which had to go over Waterloo Bridge as it could no longer be guaranteed to get to a promised destination passed there. I know that was frequently caused by congestion in Trafalgar Square, but there is no point in running buses if you can't run the whole route in normal conditions. And the decreased frequency means that being let-down by one bus has real timing consequences when the next is such a long wait.

The 'attacking private car use' policy has to be joined-up with the 'keeping charges down by reducing services' policy to make any sense, in an area already so poorly served by public transport. When 'cheap' public transport starts to equate to 'much less' public transport the incentives to keep cars off the road dissipate.

I actually don't know what the fare is since I pay by tapping my debit card :)

I do take follow on buses a lot (Blackfriars to Camberwell then Camberwell to Peckham for instance)

Sue, you are the same age as me so therefore entitled to a Freedom Pass. Free Buses, Tubes

and Trains (after 09.30am) out as far as boundary 6. and free bus travel in many other towns. eg Brighton and Hove.

So why are you paying for Transport ?

Knowing your previous history, DF, much as I often

don't agree with you you're not that kind of

person, so I'd respectfully suggest that calling a

Muslim politician a saboteur is getting close to

the "enemy within" rhetoric of the extreme right.

I know that's not what you want to say, but it's a

pretty silly thing to say, who/what is he

sabotaging and why?

I take extreme objection to your suggestion that my critism of Sidiq Khan

had anything to do with him being a Muslim.

I am well known by many of our local Muslim community, both in the restaurants

and at the Local Mosque. Often stopping to chat.

Then kindly explain why you think the term "saboteur" is appropriate to use for the Mayor of London? I take "extreme objection" [sic] to your using that term about him. Why is he a saboteur and whom is he sabotaging?

ETA if you read what I said properly, I said I knew you weren't that sort of person and that's why you should be more careful about throwing that sort of term around.

Come on now, be fair.

You?ve asked a straight question and Foxy has obfuscated, whatabouted and outright ignored them both, instead putting across a politicians answer that seeks to paint him as the victim rather than address the issue in front of him.

What else can you ask of him?

Fox.

You appear to have mixed up my post with somebody else's.

Where on this thread (or anywhere else) have I said I pay for transport?

I've put the relevant parts in bold, to help you out.

And I don't recall ever telling you my age, but I doubt it is the same as yours.

ETA: And yes, I have had a Freedom Pass for years and am well aware of how to use it, which I do frequently, thanks.

I don't dislike Sidiq Khan. I believe his policies on Congestion, pollution and it's effect on

peoples health are correct. I just think his Transport policies creates a situation where there is a shortfall.

This thread is about those shortfalls with reference to the 176 route. and not about health issues.

Sidiq Khan (along with T.F.L.) is responsible for these shortfalls and has reneged on his pre-electon promises about fare prices and improving our Transport systems. He lied to us.

It's Sabotage in the true sense or the word.

Sabourtage:- Deliberately destroy, damage, or obstruct (something), especially for political advantage.

It's Nothing personal.

Hope that answers all your requests to explain myself.

1. His name's Sadiq, common courtesy to get that right.

2. His pledge on freezing all fares was scuppered by the suburban rail companies, over whom he has no control, refusing to play ball and, as noted above, the government reneging on the deal to give TfL control of same because, basically, they feared he'd make a success of it and didn't want to give a Labour mayor the kudos. He's frozen all the fares over which he has control.

3. Thanks for the dictionary definition, although you've actually managed to spell that wrong as well. So you genuinely believe that Mr.Khan is deliberately damaging London's transport system for political advantage? Get oop t'street, lad. I'd love to know how you think that's going to win him votes. No mention of the government and their withdrawal of ?700M per annum and how that might do a little sabotage to London's transport system, I note.

Night tube, Hopper fares, no increase in the actual bus fare, excellent service on the Overground.

Not sure what part of this you think is bad?

The 176 is certainly a joke, but when the government is trying to shaft you amd you?re trying not to raise fares, what would YOU do Foxy?

It was the rail companies who raised fares, not him. TFL has no authority over them; they even offered to take over Southern when it became apparent the management couldn?t organise the proverbial party in a brewing establishment.

Me?thinks you do him a disservice.
