Have things improved.. or got worse since 2007/2008.

I came across this almost by accident..

The figures are specific to SE22 not Southwark in General.

Was a bit surprised as most people I speak to seem to think we do alright.

I have only been mugged once in 30 years.. 2008 was knocked unconcious. and robbed.

OK, lets compare on contrast with a similar 'safe' area. I'll take Ealing (W5) as the news on the riots seemed to think it was a pretty genteel place:

Not a whole lot of difference, really.

No, the figures apply to the whole of Southwark. Try putting in SE15 and you'll get the same figures (see below). East Dulwich and Dulwich probably have a lower rate of crime than the rest of Southwark as the residents are wealthier.

If you are interested the following website shows monthly records of crimes by postcode. The data is then mashed-up on a map and allows you the types of crime by street in said postcode.

Well worth having a look at and keeping notes before meetings with the Police Community Officers and local councillors.

It's true that the perception of crime amongst victims is very different from those who have been lucky enough to avoid it. I've had a knife pulled on me twice (Stirling and.... bit of a switch... New Orleans). Two ribs fractured, wallet and phone nicked and beaten up in a mugging (Whateley Road eight months back). And burgled (Landells Road last year). Four shootings less than 100 yards from my old flat since 2004 (Barry Road / Underhill, Crystal Palace Rd Post office. Barry Road again (murder). I was in the Actress by Lacon Road when that one happened.

So forgive me but it does give you a heightened awareness...a sixth sense. Tonight being no exception when watching 4 kids walk past Franklins...body language...attitude and 20 mins later 6 police cars and a taped off road. It's always been here. But my perception is that it is getting worse.

Upland Road 200's has joined the string of burgleries: Thursday night people at home. I do not know the details but the police have been notified and have become involved as they are with the whole series this (it must be one gang) gang has hammered the area with. It is not just about double locking day and night, it's about getting these people off the streets. You are all clearly very clever. How do you catch crooks with no fear of breaking and entering when people are there? Shall we all install CCTV INside our houses. Shall we set traps?

But are the police cuts happening yet? If not, then is it the news of police cuts that's making crime rise (if indeed it is)?

I don't think Cameron will change his mind the cuts are going to happen even though there are a lot of opposition to it.

Attempted burglary on Dunstans Rd 5am this morning, through the front door. Dog went crazy fortunately and offenders scampered before I had time to get my senses together and down the stairs. No damage to door as it seems they tried to pick the lock. Be aware pleease, as I certainly wouldn't have heard them.

    • I needed someone to fit a new bathroom tap at short notice and Lucasz was on-time, quick and did a great job. No fuss and no mess - will definitely have more jobs for him.
    • I have a warning from EE that they're undertaking work locally to me, I'm assuming the south end of Underhill, over the next 5 days so there may be a temporary reduction in service. Otherwise it's fine. In case you suddenly hear adverse comments, problems may only be short lived.
    • For those of us in Forest Hill this is great news.  As well as a better connection to Clapham, a quicker route to Catford is very welcome, as we often use Catford stations a lot for the Thameslink and to go down to Bromley and Beckenham. A stop in Brixton would be welcome.  Yes we have the P4.  But have you ever used the P4?
    • Sophie, I have to thank you for bringing me squarely into 2025.  I was aware of 4G/5G USB dongles for single computers, and of being able to use smartphones for tethering 4G/5G, but hadn't realised that the four mobile networks were now providing home hub/routers, effectively mimicking the cabled broadband suppliers.  I'd personally stick to calling the mobile networks 4G/5G rather than wifi, so as not to confuse them with the wifi that we use within home or from external wifi hotspots. 4G/5G is a whole diffferent, wide-area set of  networks, and uses its own distinct wavebands. So, when you're saying wi-fi, I assume you're actually referring to the wide-area networks, and that it's not a matter of just having poor connections within your home local area network, or a router which is deficient.   If any doubt, the best test will be with a computer connected directly to the router by cable; possibly  trying different locations as well. Which really leaves me with only one maybe useful thing to say.  :) The Which pages at https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/broadband/article/what-is-broadband/what-is-4g-broadband-aUWwk1O9J0cW look pretty useful and informative. They include local area quality of coverage maps for the four providers (including 5G user reports I think) , where they say (and I guess it too is pretty common knowledge): Our survey of the best and worst UK mobile networks found that the most common issues mobile customers have are constantly poor phone signal and continuous brief network dropouts – and in fact no network in our survey received a five star rating for network reliability.
