To black guy in a black car (Dunstans Road, 5/9/11 6:20am)

Recommended Posts

as far as I noticed I didn't write it was racist, what I wrote was I thought he judged me being racist, as for me there's a difference.

@l.scott: or maybe I can notice if there's a bin close to me and maybe I can notice when someone slowing his car and throwing sth towards me and maybe I can recognize facial expression?

i think i stated reasons why I posted this quite clearly, but, yeah, thanks, it was waste of time, tomorrow I would discover here that I am not only racist gay (if I guess reference to old compton street correctly) but also a masonic jew (i am already a cyclist)

Is it just me or is this thread getting more and more random, and distorted. If I didn't know y'all (irony) I would say that someone is just looking to start an argument..

Nowandhere, in my opinion to start a thread with the title black guy in a black car seems a little overly descriptive to be coincidental. I still don't have any clearer sense as to the specific significance of his colour. Would it have felt so offensive had he been Vietnamese, or, Scottish? Just asking, not trying to be rude..

I've had stuff thrown at me from a car before - I thought 'tosser' and then got on with my day. I know I wasn't there and didn't see the look on his face but he didn't actually say anything to you so I think you've added 1+1 and got something that's not 2.

@ Frankito: just asking so I'll answer, just wanted to be descriptive, few second last action, you do not know the person, how many things can you notice? and when you address thread/message to someone you want to be as much accurate as you can. That's why you have details I noticed with time and place, simple. If I noticed plate number title would be different, as reg number is much more precise, but I didn't.

Yes, he didn't say any word, yes, what I felt is based on my observations only, but that's me who was there. And of course I may be wrong, i don't think so, but I may be, I am not a god.

God - can we give the OP a break please! Most people get an intuitive feeling about a situation and I'm guessing - yes just guessing - I wasn't there - that this happened to the OP. Surely there are better targets to pick off on this forum if you're really in the mood for it than someone who's had a bottle thrown at them?

Yours - frustrated at the emerging tone of the thread,

Helen

Is this for real and are you allowed to post something like this ? Really crass or is it supposed to be a sick joke ? I don't get it ! Do you know the guy ?

I had a guy throw an empty Coke can at me from his car a few months ago as I crossed the side road by the garden centre next to ED train station. The guy was speeding into the side road and presumably felt I didn't scurry out of his way quick enough to make him feel big and tough.

I believe he did it because I was white and he was black. I don't believe he would have done it if I was black.

I believe this for the same reason that I believe every instance of (attempted) intimidation I've experienced in South London has been anti-white. I never had it from a white guy, so it's a natural conclusion. Or ridiciulous coincidence.

Generally you know what's going on in a situation like that, it's based on what you've personally experienced, there's fools trying to 'disprove' what the OP felt. You can't, you weren't there.

Next someone will be branding the OP racist, which ironically will back-up the OP's original point about what he suspected the perpetrator thought of him.

I am not trying to disprove anything, merely asking for more details as, to me, it's all a bit woolly.

And Saucy, My intention certainly isn't to 'pick off' any target....... Not my style at all.. Agreed, I wasn't there and intuition is intuition however, if you share such raw emotions on here surely you should expect feedback from all ends of the spectrum..

Umm - where's the the style?

And good - glad you're not in the habit of 'picking off' targets, although my comment was aimed at the thread in general not you in particular.

Sorry - rephrase- my comment was aimed at the general tone and feel of some of the responses to the OP.

And I'll retract 'where's the style'. Its too early and I'm snipey.

MissNoodle etc: the more I think about it, the more this sounds like a spurned girlfriend . OP? Anything you'd like to share ?

KidKruger: it's vile being intimidated by anyone - see my post above . I actively have to fight against assuming a racial motive when I get shit from a white person. Obviously one will draw conclusions depending on the nature of the incident.

In the OP ' s case it sounds as if he might have a point - the bomber jacket, short hair et al.

And doubtless the incidents you've experienced MAY have been racially motivated - and you are entitled to draw your own conclusions . But I seriously doubt if every act of intimidation has been a race thing. I've had abuse hurled at me by a black guy in very similar circumstances to your coke can incident - and I'm black. There are dickheads of all races around here - don't assume a racial motive simply because you've run up against a few black ones. We're not out to get you !

    • bizarre responses from everyone but Cancerian 🤷🏾‍♀️ As an LL resident surely a perfectly normal enquiry in that one might wish to know who to look out for if lawless/feral kids are wreaking havoc? any distinguishing marks on the perpetrators? presumably the objection is that a physical description might reveal the alleged culprits as non-white? (nothing else makes sense with this bourgeois over-sensitivity). same botched thinking that causes police descriptions of suspects on the loose to omit this info  (top way to protect the public / solve the crime) FYI i'm a mixed-race female and interested in THE TRUTH. hence, i want to protect myself & my family against criminals. so please DESCRIBE the physical appearance of criminals or suspected criminals to help to keep us safe. thankyou.  "underlying agenda... strange" 😂😂😂 strange agenda to wish to be safe in my community. well played 🤯   working the nightshift here & getting mildly obsessed/infuriated with the peculiar responses. someone please explain how wishing to be able to attempt to identify, physically, the perpetrator(s) of an alleged local assault is "strange", with an "agenda"? God help us. (wait... "God"? must be a far-right religious maniac) "Unless there were distinctive features such as unusual clothing, how is that going to identify them"... green & purple mohican with accompanying buffalo 🦬 horns through the nose might do it; or simply hairstyle, skin colour, sartorial outfit... 🤔 "and even if it did, what would be the point, without photographic evidence that they had done anything wrong?" eyewitness reports? 😏
    • Unless they were wearing school uniform with name tags otherwise children do change their clothes you know.
    • I'd also recommend Silvano for anyone in the area looking to learn automatic, having just passed first time with 5 minors. He's a very patient teacher and ensured I learned how to drive safely above all.
    • You don't need to do the research. I had to know the numbers as a TV buyer. I analysed the potential advertising revenue and Channel Four didn't cover their costs. They had some nice 'Channel Four' signs when someone hit the ropes but, In all honesty, a lot a potential revenue was lost because most old knackers were pissed off because they couldn't perve at Carol Vorderman on 'Countdown'.       Sorry, cross-post. I was replying to Malumbu. Give me a minute, if you will. I listened to the first two sessions (today) on TMS and popped down to the pub for the evening one.   I do miss the days of Peter West, Richie Benaud and Tom Graveney on BBC2.   But, the BBC are at least putting on 'Today At The Test' on at around 7pm instead of after midnight.   And it was on the 10pm news.
