Having just b******d up 10lb of green tomato chutney made with home grown, but green, toms I now want to make some more that doesn't have that elusive "burnt saucepan" flavour.

But where can I buy 2 kg of green tomatoes. All advice welcome.

PS: Will also be following up on the burnt jam pan thread to clean off the preserving pan.

sorry to hear that- i am planning green tomato chutney this week. maybe allotments would be a good source? if you dont get any where I might trade you my tomatoes for a jar in return -I'll try and guess their weight when the weather is better.

Acchhh, I feel your pain Mamora Man. I would ask tomato grower friends of yours whether you could have access to their tomato plants prior to pulling up. The majority of gardeners/allotment holders cannot be bothered with every remaining green fruit and they (the unripe tomatoes - not the gardeners!) usually end up on the compost heap. I would have given you access to mine, but our allotment has suffered terribly with tomato blight again this year - wouldn't want to give you those (yuk!).

As for your burnt pan, fret not...the advice on the thread is very, very, helpful. Perseverance is key though.

Good luck on both counts.

    • Hi. I’d like a recommendation for a driving instructor please? Manual car. Ideally patient and not costing the earth.    thanks in advance
    • I wonder if anyone can help.  My age 16 child has been forced to leave school due to prolonged ill health, onset after Covid.  It’s incredibly isolating and I was wondering if they are any local clubs (art perhaps) for her age group, or just meet ups in the area- perhaps other children out of school/ home educated who would be keen to meet.  Anything very active is out of the question- so sports wouldn’t be possible.  I’d be very interested in speaking to other parents in my position about how they manage.
    • I inherited an electric awning.  It's fab in this extreme weather in my south facing garden. Canvas now decrepit and needs replacing.  Over stretched. Anyone done this - know of anyone who can do this? Advice much appreciated. K.
    • I think that presumption's a false one and that there's no such requirement.  If in doubt try asking 'Who can make a planning application?'   So it's firm evidence at most of just their belief that they might be  setting up shop there.  Putting in an early anticipatory application for their display signage, to lessen any dead time waiting for the permission, might well be a worthwhile expense.  They don't seem to have withdrawn the application, so are at least presumably still interested in taking over the premises.
