But the plans to remove 3 of the 9 terminatin platforms will be painful if granted planning approval and would see the end of the South London Line.

Weirdly London Bridge could reinstate 3 past cloased terminating platforms but seem to prefer long distance commuting into London Bridge rather than Southwark residents commuters.

I was walking along St Thomas Street towards the station the other day - the station area being to my right being just one big red brick wall, just east of Weston Street where it goes through the tunnel - and I came across a slope going up where cars can go, so - thinking I might be using a cut-through or short cut - I walked up it. Security Guard very politely asked if I worked in one of the shops as this slope is for cars and the workers often come out this way for a smoke. I started talking with him and he said that in the not too distant future, whilst the brick wall facade will be kept, that whole area will be knocked through and turned in to shopping and eating area.

Didn't get a train home - looking forward to seeing the differences you all describe though!

You get a good view of much of the building work including new track if you catch the train to Charing X from Platform 6. Having wandered around the immediate area on foot, must say that the project management of road and site traffic seems exemplary.

The only negative is that Guy's Tower has started looking very shabby and overlooked...

Hi Jeremy,

The plan Network Rail have is to increas the number of through Thameslink platforms from 6 to 9 - hence the new viaduct across Borough High Street and to make space reduce the number of terminating platforms from 9 to 6.

What they could do is reinstate 3 terminating platforms that have been used as a station and Network Rail staff car park since the 70's. Naivelly I would imaginje a train company would prefer space for trains over parked cars!

    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
    • The Cherry Tree was absolutely excellent for a while when a youngish couple ran it and brought in a really good chef. It was them who renamed it The Cherry Tree. They were really turning it around. The chef did fantastic Scotch eggs, and one of the best roasts I've ever had. If memory serves the then owner,  for some reason known only to himself, took a dislike to them and what they were doing and sacked them all. And yes we weren't expecting a top class  meal last Christmas, and we left it too late to book anywhere else, but we weren't expecting it for a hundred pounds EACH to be quite as terrible as it was. Stupid us. Not sure why you are confused by my post, Jazzer? Did I misremember? Now it's got even more confusing because my posts have been merged and your confused emoji is shown at the bottom of the second one instead of the first 🤣
    • Hear hear. Very well said. Thank you and all the best for the year ahead
    • Tried months ago, to get folk together to do something, to say thank you. Been a member of the forum for years and if you had not stepped up, would not be an active  forum. Well administered as well. So from me to you, thanks for keeping it going..  Happy Christmas and blessings and good fortune in 2026 which I am told is The Year of The Horse….
