Sandra Mcderols
The Greyhound in Dulwich Village has a good mix of ages. Also there is a bowling green which is a good way to meet in the area. Peckie
Hello GrumpyGrannyI wandered into ED Forum this morning and loved seeing your query about where to find local older people to 'hang out with', or that was my take on what you were looking for - perhaps that's me projecting. Are you still in E-Dulwich? We seem to have lost you out of this discussion you created. I hope you're just busy hanging out with those you have found by now. Of course one can socialize with people of all ages but it's important to have pals of one's own age - at least for some of us it is. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) pals don't grow on trees. Thanks a million for posting the question GrumpyGranny and thanks to all the others for their suggestions. It's good to find a virtual peer group. It inspires me to go out there and create a real one. Cheers from Peckie, 56 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20164-55-65-year-olds-where-do-they-go/page/3/#findComment-777721 Share on other sites
savvygirl
Hi GrumpyGrannyWhen I retired I joined a fitness club, there are a few in the area some with special rates for seniors. Also CEL Lewisham (Community Education Lewisham) runs adult classes so you might find something suitable on their website, google CEL Lewisham and go into Find a Course. I know they run classes in art, stained glass, jewellery making, printmaking (etching), ceramics, cookery, dressmaking to name but a few. I also became a Friend of the Horniman where you can take part and help out in lots of activities. I met a lot of people this way and made some very good friends. I believe there are walking clubs in the area, if you look at the Ramblers website, www.ramblers.org.uk you will see that there are walks in and around the south east London area. I'm sure there are gardening clubs too, if that is something that might interest you, and I believe the Horniman welcome volunteers to help the gardeners out there. I'm sure there are book clubs (I think Dulwich Library can help you here) and there were a number of knitters who got together in the area. Take a look in SE22 or SE23 magazine for local activities too. I hope this is of help and you'll soon find your life is so full there won't be enough days in the week! savvygirl
Why has this been re-posted? It's nearly 3 years since the original post! Is there a reason? Otherwise rather odd....! GrumpyGranny
Yes I am still here! I couldn't understand it either when this thread re-appeared! However I am fantastically grateful for all these suggestions and I hope everyone else is too. Lots there to think about and choose from! We almost need a welcoming committee to East Dulwich / Peckham / Camberwell. Might be a thought to have an event once a year at the Liberal Club (near Peckham Rye station) where all these different interests can be displayed and discussed. Thanks again everyone x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20164-55-65-year-olds-where-do-they-go/page/3/#findComment-778476 Share on other sites
