You have also given more than one clue to your identity, which I suggest you delete if you don't want to delete the whole of your OP and other posts.

Sorry but... have you actually had to live on benefits with small children??

Luckily I haven't but my mother did and even in the 'old-days' it was tough and we had to rely on the help of family to get by when bills came in.

Minimum wage jobs which is all thats available to most unskilled workers. legally often do not have the flexibility of hours to accommodate single mothers.

At least this lady is trying to get work.

To be honest if she declared her earning they would affect her benefits and she'd probably not be able to pay her rent and get in a bigger mess.

I pay tax I work bloody hard but I also have some compassion.

You Celia obviously do not.

Try living on a basic benefits amount for a few months with small kids and see how you feel about this then.

I too was a bit taken aback at the brazen nature of the OP. But the idea that most of us *want* to pay tax is equally naive. In my experience, the majority of people who are able to "optimize" their tax bill do so. From cleaners, to IT contractors, to billionaire presidents. The wealthy may be within the law, but morally it's the same.

But the OP - for her own sake - should probably change the wording to something like "informal work".

Until a different system is proposed we all need to contribute if we want to use services - can't have it both ways. Agree that the big companies need to be pursued otherwise the rest of us are disproportionately subsidising them - particularly in view of the Starbucks example this morning.

OP best of luck to you earning a bit of cash- this is a tough, tough city to live in with limited funds, as a single parent etc. You may have paid taxes previously. The time will come when you will be able to contribute more with taxes once again. Until then maybe you are in a position where you need to prioritise supporting your children.

Do delete this post or do more to anonymise it though....to protect yourself

Eerrh excuse me you rotten lot. The OP did not state she was on benefits, it was one of you's assumptions, you don't know her circumstances , and her identity is secure. You don't know if she has another "tax paying" job. Your comments are all based on assumptions, shame on you all !

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
