There is a massive party going on in the road behind me, which is spilling out into the street. I called the Southwark Noise team and it turns out that they are only open until 3 am, after which they no longer deal with noise issues. In practice this means that any calls logged after 1.30 are very unlikely to be dealt with.

They are open during the daytime (from 7.30 most days), but of course they can do little to address noise when it is not keeping people awake, so the daytime service is pretty redundant.

Basically, if you want to have an all night party, just ensure that you only really crank it up after 1.30am.

@James Barber - any comment?

This joke is wearing a bit thin now, e-dealer, can't you give it a rest?

Thanks Sue,

Hi the-e-dealer,

The noise team cuts was a Labour administrations choice.

I voted agaisnt this cut and voted for keeping it under our fully costsed and finance director confirmed budget alternative.

You clearly don't like what I've done and represent. Fine. But please don't lie and make things up about me.

Another Cranky law by Southwark Council that they cannot afford to carry out, maybe the noise team might be awake if they lived next door to one of these mad parties. Can we hope that a few noisy parties spilling into the street will occur near the homes of our sleepy councilors.

I'm all for a bit of dogged determination, but is there a possibility that you might be coming across as a bit of mentalist now, do you think?

That's totally pointless because they won't do anything unless they come out and hear it for themselves, anyway it would be too late to stop the noise then, wouldn't it?

I'm not his friend, and your "little joke" (it wasn't funny in the first place) is getting to be a major pain in the a**e, made at every opportunity on virtually every thread you post on.

Water under the bridge now, why can't you just let it go?

:-S

Presumably they have to pay staff more at night - I imagine that is the reason.

But if they're only going to have the service during the day, I can't see why they didn't just close it completely.

Probably because they can still advertise that they've got a noise team, and most people won't realise that it doesn't work at night - until they try to phone them.

Oh OK - the only time I've needed it later than 3am was on Christmas Eve about 4.30pm in the morning, and the noise team weren't working on Christmas Eve anyway.

The noise at the house in question was so loud they couldn't even hear me ringing their bell and banging on the door (and yes, that probably woke up even more neighbours :-$).

It wasn't a party, just one a******e. Woke me from my sleep in a room at the far end of my house from the place the noise was coming from.

Great rested Christmas Day I had that year. (6)

They are open until 2am, 3am on Saturday. In reality however, they can only respond to calls logged before 1/1:30,due to the number of staff available to make site visits. On busy nights they may stop logging calls even earlier.

And Starmer piled in very heavily on Johnson for that. If he doesn't resign himself now he is an enormous hypocrite and this will be very damaging  indeed.
    • Yep Peter Mandelson is officially toast.  But what now MUST happen is that the title of Lord and all the privileges which go with that should be removed immediately. It's a long way up the pole but it's an even longer way back down as Mandelson is finding out.
