My cat is being bullied by the neighbour's cat and as a result has become timid and wont go outside anymore. In the past it's led to over-grooming and a very bald belly and legs. More recently a nasty episode of cystitis and urinary tract infection because she's holding her pee in and not going out. Anyway, long story short...she has just come back from the vet having had various treatment and is doing better but still afraid of outside. Shes got a nice warm place to sleep, a litter tray and ive also got a feliway plug in thing. My question is whether anyone has tried bach rescue remedies for pets and if so is it worth getting??

All advice welcome!

She may just adapt to living inside and overall that might be least stressful for her- some cats can happily live indoors. Cats are intensely territorial and it will be hard to persuade the bully cat to stay off your cat's turf. Is she able and happy to use the litter tray?

we had the same problem... our neighbour's cat used to terrorise both our cats, they'd come tearing in through the catflap whenever he went for them.

Fortunately (for us and our moggies) the neighbour's cat died

strangely it did this in our garden of all place, but it was under the tree underneath which it was born - maybe he thought it a fitting place to die? It wasn't a very old cat so the cause of death was a mystery (though I suspect foxes, or maybe just karma?!).

we have two kittens now (8 months old), the boy goes out a lot and has got bashed up once, the girl refuses to use the catflap so is in effect a house cat... our other female cat was quite similar, I think females seem to prefer living indoors (from talking to other cat owners).

regarding the bully cat, has it been spayed/neutered or is it just a horrible cat? you could always try hiding by a window and spraying it with a watergun if it goes anywhere near your moggie... or just in your garden? Might help deter it...

A friend of mine at work had the same problem with over-grooming after her marriage broke down - the cat seemed to get quite stressed by this! She's fine now though and I'm sure yours will be with time. Must be awful for you though so best of luck

Thanks everyone. Sadly going out the front isn't an option as we dont have access and to be honest I think the fact she is timid means the unknown would probably be terrifying. I had a baby in february and whilst I thought that would upset her it has done the opposite and she is very close to my daughter. Because of this I have been off work for much of this year and have been in the flat and able to scare away the neighbour's cat although it doesn't scare easily and is very confident! The cat used to come into the flat so we changed to a microchip catflap which has helped the anxiety quite a bit. I think the latest issue may be because I'm now in work 2 days a week so not there to protect her so much, the change may have unsettled her.

In answer to the other questions - the cat was mainly bought as a mousecatcher and lives outside. It seems hungry most of the time and i don't think it has been neutered which would account for the aggression I guess. Its a big

muscular thing as well and has well and truly claimed our garden for it's own as the previous bully cats have all vacated!! We do have another female cat and she is a bit more feisty so doesn't seem so fussed, if only they could gang up together!

Isn't it horrid when they get beaten up :( you can't choose your neighbours as they say! Might try the rescue remedy and see how it goes.

Lilolil, she already uses a feliway diffuser (see original post) so was just asking if anyone had any experience using Bach's rescue remedy with animals

Bach flower remedies are relatively cheap.

I'd have thought it was worth a go to see if they made any difference?

You could put a few drops in her drinking water each day?

ETA: Rescue remedy is good for trauma, and has several remedies in it, but there might be other ones which would be appropriate for her - long time since I used them so I can't remember, but I'm sure you could google it.

Jenny, I have most (possibly all) of the Bach remedies, if you want to try any of those mentioned on that website before you shell out on buying any, let me know.

I've had them for years but keep forgetting I've got them (don't think they go off though)

Is that a bit of a proxy war ianr?

It seems like you're attacking woodrot on copyright because you don't like what he's saying about cats?

Although you're technically correct on the copyright issue, it's not a substantive enough enfrigement to attract any sort of challenge.

    • Thanks all, our hope was (despite the diminishing estate) he would get on with it.  Progress is glacial, it's been two years since probate was granted, that's two cold and damp winters with no heating, and not surprisingly a pipe burst. He's blames the issues on the estate agent, who separately had a dispute with him, he had a wobbly when one of the beneficiaries spoke to the estate agent.  Separately he said it was the family's fault for letting the property get into a poor condition.  It was dated, but certainly not in poor condition. There are two five star reviews on Google, and five one star: ** WARNING** This solicitor firm has to be one of the worst I have encountered. The solicitor is prehistoric in his practices and will carry out work at his own snails pace, the fax machine he uses gets turned off at 2 pm and its near impossible to get him on the phone. STAY AWAY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, check the solicitors ombudsman, this firm has previous bad practice recorded.   Disgusting under no circumstances use this solicitor. For over 10 years he has not carried out the terms of a Will he has not re-invested money but has retained it.  He writes letters which are pure "Flannel" excuses for doing nothing.  You have been warned   shocking experience, delayed the whole process, told other side solicitors to not contact him as he feels pressured etc. never use.   Not fit for 21st century. No website, no email address, no electronic transfer. Very slow, very little communication.   Was not a pleasant experience dealing with this firm
    • If you mean the one outside the church going towards Peckham, it still had the closed sign on it this morning, but as there are no road works there, I'm sure some of the drivers will stop there on request.  The stop outside the chippy coming from Peckham is closed as there are road works in front of it.  The 4 way traffic lights are in operation.., causing a lot of congestion.
