Have to say Nutty I'm with you through and through. I live about 250 yds from it and I claim to be in ED, though have an SE15 Postcode. As for where it claims to be (And Alan's counter claims) BUT REALLY DOES IT FUC&ING MATTER! Since when do people define where they will drink by a boozer's postcode??

As for what Alan's problems are ......There is this big gripe about a possible flats conversion of the place, but by the same token he seems to go out of his way to discourage people from visiting, and having a general downer on the place/location. Now, if you don't want the place to convert to flats, then perhaps a more positive upbeat approach to the place, and not moaning about the "Location" would go more towards building up the business, and thus negate the worries about loosing a local boozer?

Alan, why are you so negative about this place?

That's just nuts. Post code shame is a mortal sin.

You are right about having a postive outlook about Hoopers. It is definitely underrated and if people have misconstrued negative comments from my posts then I apologise.

Great real ale, really friendly, guaranteed a seat, shows sport on a big screen, pool table and lap dancers!

Seriously though, I've heard they are making a big effort this Sunday perhaps that will be the start of a new era of really prosperous trade..

I have been reading this thread with a big smile on my face. It started last with nutty asking if the pub quiz at Hoopers cut the mustard. He was encouraged to give it a go by Sean & Mr Bojangles. Nutty let you guys and gals know that he had a good time, albeit not as busy as the places on LL.

This gave Alan Dale the opportunity to throw his usual disparraging opinions of the place, as well as his well known views on postcodes, effectively saying it is irrelevant where you bank, shop or socilise, you should abide by how the Post Office determined postal areas long before any of us were born.

However Alan has obviously got some exciting ideas to make it the most buzzing place in Camberwell, and the envy of those East Dulwichites! So, having spoken to the management, they are willing to allow Alan the opportunity to work with them for a week so that he can start to get his ideas into practice.Hoopers has a Beer Festival starting tonightand if he pops in & makes him self known, they will be pleased to meet him,

Now, about that pub quiz....

Are you asking me to do a sort of Gordon Ramsay kitchen nightmares on the place?

Jazz?! F*ck me!

You need simple food, locally produced, good honest british pub food. Toasted sandwich? F*ck me!

Thanks for the offer but I'm no Gordan Ramsay. More of a fat camp Simon Cowell and I would soil myself if I had to serve real customers in a real bar.

I am happy to make suggestions online though especially if they are welcome.

Glad you've got thick skin and the courage of your convictions to take my unwanted attention and turn it to your advantage..

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
