Jah Lush
Sorry to hear about your Dad Mick Mac. Was the cancer related to smoking? I have a similar story. When my dad got cancer and had one of his kidneys removed he was told to stop immediately. He said: "It's a bit late now," and carried on. Miraculously, he beat cancer, heart disease too. Strokes got him in the end (aged 80) after a two year struggle after his first one.I should probably stop smoking too. I'm hopelessly addicted (over 30 a day) but enjoy it and quite frankly couldn't give a toss if it kills me. If I stop enjoying it. I'll quit. So, good luck to anyone who tries. I hope you're successful. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21157-giving-up-smoking/page/2/#findComment-511150 Share on other sites
reggie
I think that if you really enjoy smoking you shouldnt stop. The question is: How much do you enjoy it?And one more question: How much might you enjoy not smoking? Jah Lush
Reggie. 1. A lot. Especially with a drink. They go together like bacon and eggs. 2. Apart from getting rid of my hacking cough in the mornings I wouldn't.Never deprive yourself of the things you enjoy in life. That's my motto. El Pibe
After smoking for about 5 years I woke up one morning, lit up and just stared at this surreal object and couldn't for the life of me work out what the point of a cigrette was and why the hell I'd been puffing on them for years.I gave up that day. Huguenot
I never enjoy smoking during the day, so I don't.I really enjoy smoking with a drink, so I do.Often go a week or two without having one, but never feel any obligation. El Pibe
As I said, I couldn't see the point, there was no enjoyment to be had, just a residual pavlovian urge to light up when I had a pint in my hand. Huguenot
You were drinking when you woke up? I think that's a good reason to give up. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21157-giving-up-smoking/page/2/#findComment-511289 Share on other sites
reggie
Alcohol increases nicotine cravings...good news for tobacco companies.Nicotine inhibits the effects of alcohol, so you drink more...good news for the drinks industry.Smoking and drinking definitely go hand in hand! maxxi
A little late to qualify as a new year's resolution and despite my fairly recent and staunch defence of the delightful habit I am afraid something terrible/wonderful has happened over the last week or so... I have stopped. Stopped drawing on my favourite weed that is. I am in the process now - and I fear it is irreversible - of becoming a non-smoker. Okay it has only been 10 days so far and I still miss a smoke like a man with scabies misses a scratch but I do believe this is it.I am posting as feel the need for ridicule and accusations of hypocrisy (okay Nette I know, I know) to accompany my regular blasts of ... http://www.google.co.uk/url?source=imglanding&ct=img&q=http://cached.imagescaler.hbpl.co.uk/resize/scaleToFit/393/263/?sURL=http://offlinehbpl.hbpl.co.uk/news/2MM/DD50BA76-BF64-46A1-2EB817380D58DF45.jpg&sa=X&ei=jjqAT6fxEsL48QP5z-2JBg&ved=0CAwQ8wc&usg=AFQjCNFPhegwMzKpNDIoKidpCpe9OZ5HSg... so why am I giving up? for the same reason I started as a kid - I thought it might be cool. Razors
Smoking is an additiction. Giving up smoking requires strength of will, plus other help where and when needed. DulwichFox
One way to cut down on Smoking is to only have a Cigarette after a meal... I heard of someone who tried this method. He is now on 40 Meals a day. Fox. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21157-giving-up-smoking/page/2/#findComment-536343 Share on other sites
