That'll be a No then?

ETA: I've emailed Jamie to find out ....

Hi CameronMac

I just got that email too and was about to post the same thing - thanks!

Bit of a mixed decision I think as the views of the minority seem to have taken precedence over the views of the majority.

But better than it might have been I suppose.

Is either side appealing, do you know?

Hi Sue,

I think it is unlikely that Jamie Hooper will want to appeal the decision. However, he has 21 days to make a decision on this. I don't know if the applicant intends to appeal.

The decision by the sub committee was a compromise that I doubt has left either party terribly satisfied. I know Jamie Hooper is willing to talk with those residents who supported the review with a view to making the compromise work.

The biggest difficulty Jamie faces is if anyone goes out of the unlocked fire doors (Malfort Road and Ivanhoe Road entrances to the pub) after 11.00pm for a cigarette and/or to drink, that puts Jamie in breach of his licence conditions. The difficulty of enforcing this type of condition was pointed out to the Sub Committee in the presentations, but they do not seem to have taken that on board in their deliberations. Jamie will have to rely on appropriate signage and the good will of customers not to use the outside areas after 11.00pm.

Oh yeh, duh :-$

And yes I agree re the people who complained (less than a handful, stirred up by one vindictive person). Move near a pub and then complain when it goes about its business. C****.

Just paid my first visit to CPT (well, I've only been here five years) to watch Everton-Man City and, at the risk of repeating what regulars have already said, what a good place for a drink.

Wonderful wood carving (is it machined repro or original? - either way it works) especially around the doorway to the backrooms/stairs. So much still there including the single dangling gaslight fitting and the layout of porch and two bars is a nice change from the airport-departure-lounge feel of so many knocked-through pubs. It needs a facelift but they shouldn't mess with the basic layout or the original fittings.

?3.30 for a fine pint of Spitfire and a good view of the game seemed reasonable. Having only now discovered the place I would like to return to watch more football and drink more Spitfire before it is turned (if indeed it is) into an ED clone.

Well it's about time Maxxi. It's certainly my local choice for viewing the football. All the wood carving is original. I'd hate to see any of that go. I took a couple of pictures for posterity. What I like about the place is it's like two pubs in one. I sat in the old bar on Sunday because I didn't want to watch the Arsenal match. To paraphrase Bill Shankly - "If they were playing in my back garden I'd draw the curtains." The Spitfire's good but so's the Doombar. They do a bloody good pint of Guinness too. Make sure you go back soon. Cheers!

A question for the experts:

Is it possible to soundproof a building to the point that whatever happens inside cannot be heard on the other side of the property wall? And then so long as people enter and leave with decorum.... what happens inside stays inside? Sorry if I'm in left field, I haven't studied this thread.

Jamie had already soundproofed the bar as much as possible as a result of this woman's constant complaints.

And had put up signs asking people to be considerate of neighbours when leaving etc..

It's hard to see what more he could have done.

Why this woman bought a house near a pub when most houses for sale are not near a pub is a mystery to me. Maybe she wants it closed down so that she can buy it? Who knows.

    • OMFG is it possible for the council to do anything without a bunch of armchair experts moaning about it? The library refurb is great news, as it's lovely but completely shagged out - the toilets don't even work reliably. Other libraries in the area will be open longer house during the closure. July is a rubbish time to begin a refurb because it's just before the entire construction sector goes on summer holiday, and it would mean delaying the work another 8 months.

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
