Well, since the Barbara Hepworth sculpture was melted down for scrap, we are in need of a new tourist attraction...

Banged to rights! It's possible that the Hepworth may have been taken by an avid art lover, to savour in the solitude of their own private kingdom, in the same way that church roofs may well have been stripped of their lead by a pack of dedicated, if unorthodox, vicars who were determined to get their own parish roof up to scratch at the expense of others'.

A sort of "church Darwinism". If vicars believed in Darwinism, that is.

But, call me a cynic, my vote is still on the Hepworth meeting the same fiery grave as the 9m of signaling cable stripped out betwixt London Bridge and Bermondsey South back in September...

My guess is a weird Berocca OCD, which is nowhere near as funny as the urine theory, but would help explain the white residue. I leave a glass of the stuff by the bed at night if I've had a bunch of booze, vainly hoping it will fend off all evils, and it looks pretty much like that next morning...

pls can you stick a post it note on the bottles saying this?

you might be doing them a big favour...

All bottles still in place at 7pm this evening. I thought about taking a sniff (I had gloves on) but decided I didn't want to end the mystery or this thread. Sad as it is, I will likely take a diversion on my way to breakfast tomorrow to check the status.

In light of admin's statement at the top of the page regarding housekeeping I suspect these bottles to be nothing less than forum residue.

Anyone prepared to undertake a more empirical study of the flasks will surely detect the faint whiff of Foie Gras, Burnt Jam and cats.

My favourite post of the day. Thanks :)-D

He must save every ?P?.

It?s always worth knowing, just what is the interest you might get,

there are several ways to save, but the best is with fixed interest set.

There are several Banks where you will have to use Plastic provided,

but which one, after much thought as yet he has still not decided.

There are a exactly one hundred new pence in every Sterling pound,

I cant see him bagging and lugging all those heavy coins around.

He could stay at around ten, a useable number not too great at all,

taking up the space on the top at the corner Worlingham Road wall.

He tried to deposit this collection at the branch of the Lloyds Bank,

but was redirected elsewhere, his soggy Bank Book is left as a blank.

Arriving at the Bottle Bank, finding the right place, searching is dramatic,

plenty for glass jars and bottles, but none at all there that takes plastic.

So it looks like those multi coloured bottles are back here gain to stay,

if you get tired of looking at them on your right, then come the other way.

Now seen on your left, leaving them behind getting very far distant,

no use removing those bottles away, the dirty old devil is very persistent.

The next time you use your Plastic Credit Card, pause take time to think,

just what can be that smell, the Card is giving off such a horrible stink.

Made from recycled Plastic and made into a Credit Card and issued you,

it?s just a thought that the bottles contents, might have been Recycle too.

What do you expect me to do with my time you shutting down for hours.

Can I suggest you tell the police to contact local taxi companies as it's almost certainly a driver clearing out his company's car at the end of a shift, probably in the middle of the night when there's nobody watching. I think there's a minicab company on Northcross Road - they might know something.

I too have wondered about these bottles but I think the clue is that they are outside the hose of the lady who always puts her spare apples out for neighbours to take. I am thinking/hoping that they may be apple juice which she is hoping to give away but instead she has started a mystery .. and councillors are talking of the police!

I think you should take some pictures and post them here...

    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
    • The Cherry Tree was absolutely excellent for a while when a youngish couple ran it and brought in a really good chef. It was them who renamed it The Cherry Tree. They were really turning it around. The chef did fantastic Scotch eggs, and one of the best roasts I've ever had. If memory serves the then owner,  for some reason known only to himself, took a dislike to them and what they were doing and sacked them all. And yes we weren't expecting a top class  meal last Christmas, and we left it too late to book anywhere else, but we weren't expecting it for a hundred pounds EACH to be quite as terrible as it was. Stupid us. Not sure why you are confused by my post, Jazzer? Did I misremember? Now it's got even more confusing because my posts have been merged and your confused emoji is shown at the bottom of the second one instead of the first 🤣
    • Hear hear. Very well said. Thank you and all the best for the year ahead
