Jocky
Hello ED Forum.Looking for some info. as I've found myself in a slightly annoying situation. Purchased a new Henry the Hoover on eBay, but it's arrived and it's got a yellow industrial plug as opposed to the standard UK domestic one. attached is a snap if need be. Does anyone know if there are adaptors which will allow this to be used in a household? The alternative is that I return it, and write an angry email to the vendor for not making this obvious. Thanks in advance to anyone that may have any knowledge around this. I wasn't sure where else to turn. GrahamP
The Henry that you have purchased runs on 110 volts as used on building sites. You would need a step down transformer in order for it to be used with 240 volt mains.eg https://www.screwfix.com/c/electrical-lighting/site-transformers/cat830094The transformers are heavy. I would change to the 240 volt Henry for domestic use.Did the Ebay listing state that it was 110 volt?Graham Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/217465-help-please-electrical-question/#findComment-1314344 Share on other sites
rendelharris
Definitely return - a transformer costs almost as much as the vacuum itself and they're about the size and weight of a car battery! Robert Poste's Child
Ooh, that really would be quite annoying as returning it won't be cheap either. singalto
I know nothing about electric but could an electrician change the plug? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/217465-help-please-electrical-question/#findComment-1314404 Share on other sites
rendelharris
singalto Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I know nothing about electric but could an> electrician change the plug? No, it's an entirely different voltage which has to be run through a large transformer. Simply plugging a 110v appliance into a 240v socket would definitely wreck the appliance, probably start a fire, and possibly electrocute anyone holding the appliance! JohnL
The yellow colour plug not the style indicates the appliance is 110v (correct me if wrong)A blue one would be 240v ?https://cpc.farnell.com/numatic/hvr-200-11-110v/henry-vacuum-cleaner-620w-red/dp/SI17841?mckv=stjosOp9i_dc Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/217465-help-please-electrical-question/#findComment-1314431 Share on other sites
