With baby number two due in the summer, we're considering getting a double buggy. I know the obvious choice is a Phil & Ted's but having pushed a couple of friends' P&T doubles (with two kids in) I am not sure I want to push something that heavy around. I also saw something called a Uppababy double ? anyone got one of those and can recommend?

The other alternative is attaching a buggy board to our Bugaboo Bee for toddler (who'll be 2 and 4 months when baby is born) and/or carrying new baby around in a sling for the first few months. If toddler tantrums ensue then he can always jump into the buggy while I carry baby in sling.

Any recommendations/advice gratefully received.

Thanks!

I had exactly the same dilemma - our older one is now 2 years and 4 months and newborn is 4 weeks old. Have tried Cameleon plus buggy board but older one only stayed on it for 5mins max and always wanted to get down (maybe when he is a bit older?).

We have a P&T Sports for nanny share and I found it too heavy to push/get onto pavements, etc. After researching into it, got the P&T Promenade which came out in Jan 2012 and extremely happy with it. The suspension is very good (on par with our single buggy, Cameleon IMO) so it doesn't feel heavy to push around. It's also quite easy to push onto pavements, etc as it has a curved handle which extends out very long. The seats also lie flat both top and bottom (had both kids in it for a nap when we were out and about last week).

The only minor point is that it's quite wide for our narrow Victorian hallway but I think the width is actually the same as older model P&Ts.

Good luck with the search!

It's a really tricky one. Our kids are just shy of 19 months apart so I thought we would get loads of use from our P&T's Vibe. However, in reality for the first few weeks of no.2's life, he was carried in a sling pretty much everywhere and now, nearly 7 months on no.1 insists on scooting or buggy boarding absolutely everywhere! The double buggy is really only used when we go out for a whole day and we need both to nap at lunchtime.

I don't think you will ever find a perfect solution but second hand is always a thought as in my experience it's life was fairly limited.

Thanks for all your responses everyone, I really appreciate it. I do loovvvveee the look of the P&T Promenade, AmyDown, but I think I may have to go second-hand. ClareC keep me posted on when you might come to sell your P&T Vibe as we'll be looking to buy one in the summer?

I would say don't bother and go with the Bee plus buggy board / sling option. There is a 2 year 3 month gap between my 2 and I really regret that I sold the single pram when I was pregnant with number 2. We bought a 2nd hand P+T and used it for about 6-8 weeks. I hated it! Wide, heavy, the baby hated being in that coffin underneath and seemed to have outgrown it by 6 weeks despite being fairly average sized.

I ended up borrowing a Maclaren techno to use with buggy board. The older one has been fine on the buggy board or scooter ever since. I just wish I'd had the 2nd baby in a nicer pram where I could have looked at her a bit more!

Lula, we have a 20 month age gap between our two and were having exactly the same conversation as you. In the end we went for a second hand P&T Sport and I think that it's totally fabulous. And second hand not too ???. I was worried about the weight, but I don't think its heavy and its really easy to steer (even with one hand)We are also getting a Buggy Board for our Bee. Our 23 month now loves the P&T so much that he wants to eat dinner in it - I think its because its so much higher up than it was on a Bee.

    • Many thanks to the woman who looked after our old deaf Miniature Schnauzer who got separated from us in the park this morning. And thank you to the man who alerted us . My husband is very relieved and grateful. If any one knows who these people are please say thank you as he didn't get their names.
    • why do we think we have the right for the elected local council to be transparent?
    • Granted Shoreditch is still London, but given that the council & organisers main argument for the festival is that it is a local event, for local people (to use your metaphor), there's surprisingly little to back this up. As Blah Blah informatively points out, this is now just a commercial venture with no local connection. Our park is regarded by them as an asset that they've paid to use & abuse. There's never been any details provided of where the attendees are from, but it's still trotted out as a benefit to the local community.  There's never been any details provided of any increase in sales for local businesses, but it's still trotted out as a benefit to the local community.  There's promises of "opportunities" for local people & traders to work at the festival, but, again, no figures to back this up. And lastly, the fee for the whole thing goes 100% to running the Events dept, and the dozens of free events that no-one seems able to identify, and, yes, you guessed it - no details provided for by the council. So again, no tangible benefit for the residents of the area.
