We may never know who fired the shots, but within a few seconds the police had it under contol and were just going about getting all the evidence they needed. No ambulances were at the scene and at least 3 suspect were taken away after being throughly searched.

Why waste police time - clearly nothing of importance has happened.

I walked past shortly after the event, having been booted off the bus, and it was still cordoned off. A policeman very very politely asked us to walk around Piedmont Green rather than through the crime scene, and said that shots had been fired.

I can't imagine anyone was hurt, as the road reopened five or ten minutes later.

Oh dear, so there definitely were some gun shots fired then :(

There were bangs which were assumed at the time to be gun shots - quite possibly a starting pistol - the fact that there has been so little in the news etc. suggests that this may not have been live ammuninition - when that is used the police tend to cordon off for some considerable time afterwards for forensics etc.

    • Thanks ianr. So no mention of either Tesco  or October? So we are no further forward with knowing when the Tesco will actually open? The place seems to have been empty for ages. I would have thought Tesco might have wanted to be up and running in time for Christmas, but maybe that isn't relevant to a relatively small Tesco Express? ETA: The wonders of the space bar, eh?
