Renata Hamvas
Maybe something for Cleaner Greener Safer next year (this year's applications are under consideration at the moment). In terms of the works on the roundabout itself, I'm sure everyone agrees that it is important that the works on the roundabout are done in safe conditions for the people doing the works. This is why traffic management is required for the repairs to be implemented.Renata Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22052-goose-green-roundabout/page/2/#findComment-528510 Share on other sites

eddie
I think that it is quite refreshing to hear the views of another councillor on the forum rather than being subjected to the biased dribble that is often churned out by the local Lib Dem councillor. The latter whose view, in times of financial difficulties, is that the way to help a business that has run into difficulties is for the council to buy the premises, knock it down, and make Burgess Park bigger. James Barber
Hi Eddie,You must be referring to my recent blog where I suggest the council consider approaching an architecrual salvage yard that sadly burnt down a week ago. The council in the past had thought of asking about buying this land as it blocks access to a sizeable slice of Burgess Park. My interest in Burgess Park is that a number of my past relatives homes and businesses are under the grass ie. demolished to make way for the park.Sorry you feel this is dribble. Renata Hamvas
A meeting was held on site with the contractor and representatives from London Transport to finalise the timings of the works and to discuss the appropriate traffic management. The works will now commence on Tuesday 10 April and should be completed within 3-4 days dependent on weather (up to Sunday 15th if weather is poor). This is at the suggestion of London Transport due to the Easter school break and the perceived lower demand on their services. A further advantage of this way of working is that the working time will be increased as there will be no need to remove and replace the required temporary road closures each day. The traffic management will comprise three way traffic lights on the roundabout with temporary road closures of Spurling Road (two way access only from Crawthew Grove), Tintagel Crescent (access only from Elsie Road) and the minorEast Dulwich Road (access only from Adys Road). It is appreciated that there may be some significant traffic disruption during the works. Consequently, there will be signage erected well in advance of the work start date, and a letter advising residents and businesses of the work proposals is going out within the next few days. Goose
Any idea what they are actually going to do? Seems a lot of disruption for what is actually needed. As a nearby resident, I received notification from FM Conway about it in the post with detailed maps of where the workzones will be ... interestingly dated October 2010 ! 3 way traffic signals so I suggest avoiding the area for the period they are working on it. Only me!
Just bumping this one up the list.Work starts Tuesday. So alternative route avoiding this end of Lordship Lane, East Dulwich Road & Grove Vale could well be a good idea. uncleglen
I dread to think of the disruption. The Council planted a sapling opposite my house last year- 2 lorries +6 men! bigdavid
Adding about 20 mins to northbound bus journeys this morning (Wednesday). From the letter from the contractor: "works will be carried out between 7am and 6.30pm. The longer working hours are to ensure we can complete in the shortest possible time and minimise the traffic disruption."They obviously haven't told their staff as there was nothing onsite apart from a pile of bricks at either of these times last night or this morning. James Barber
Hi bigdavid,Really sorry to hear this.If you witness this again please do complain to the contractors rep Sam Redington on 020 8636 8822.I've certainly raised this with council officials - but they are the same officials that thought the... shall we say zealous traffic controls were necessary which do appear OTT. Worker
And be careful when using the pedestrian crossings; southbound traffic is going anti-clockwise through the roundabout and briefly along the right-hand lane of LL before cutting back to the left.So where you used to look right, look left, and vice versa. Or something like that. Anyway, take care. bloonoo
Good pint Worker - and if only the cars would realise it's still a pedestrian crossing - seems that they're more fussed with beating the traffic lights than stopping for pedestrians Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22052-goose-green-roundabout/page/2/#findComment-536967 Share on other sites
catgirl
Starting at 7am? I was walking along there at 10am yesterday and although the traffic controls were already in place, the workmen were only just starting to set out the barriers and no work had actually started. paulc
Work is definitely underway now, repairing the brick wall on the side of the roundabout. Looks like they have about three quarters of the broken bits done.Long queues of traffic in north, south and east directions of course. Goose Green side road and Tintagel Crescent have been blocked off, presumably against rat-running. Sunny day, so hopefully work will be finished soon. James Barber
I've just been assured most of the works will be completed Thursday afternoon and just a short period Friday morning to finish the works. With a following wind all done on Thursday. Weather depending - I'm going to now stop hoping for rain until Friday afternoon.Of course if the right equipment had turned up yesterday at 7am and today at 7am they'd have gained another 6 hours work completed and be finishing lunch time tomorrow. And if the temporary lights hadnt developed a fault yesterday afternoon they'd be finishing today.I'm taking a deep breath to calm myself after typing that. Bic Basher
How's the traffic along there around 9pm. I'm planning to get the 176 instead of the train home and don't fancy 20 mins in the queue. DulwichFox
Just left the Bishop 1/2 hour ago. Absolute chaos... Blue flashing lights down at the roundabout. Looks like a fire-engine and other service vehicles. Did not investigate what was going on. Fox.
