ladida
Used to say 'yes, no, but.....' or vice versa quite a lot and now really hate it when I hear those two words together. Brendan
Not really a word but I have noticed that I have started to begin a great deal of sentences with the words and or but. My high school English teacher would have my hide (the dirty fecker) but I don?t see anything wrong with it. annaj
buggie, your post made me laugh out loud! I do exactly the same thing:"does it really hurt just there?""Oowww yes""Good"What I mean, of course, is oh good I know what's wrong with you and what to do.One word I definitely overuse is the dreadful healthcare worker's pop"pop on the couch""pop your clothes off""pop to x-ray"Ridiculous, but I can't help it. bignumber5
I'll second "pop", although I don't think you can make that a generic healthcare workers word: nurses word, that is, we was usin' it for ages before you doctors popped on the bandwagon... ;-)My interested-in-what-you've-said-response for ages was a Jack Sparrow "that's interesting", until pirates 2 and 3 came out, which were so shocking I felt i needed to put some distance between myself and the captain. My glad-i-got-it-right-inappropriate-happy-phrase is a rather shocking, connery-esque "schplendid"... celineblondon
I say "Oh F%ck" a lot but then it sounds nice with an accent apparentlyor "tomorrow". I will do the washing up tomorrow. I'll tidy my clothes tomorrow. I stop drinking/ smoking tomorrow:) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2209-what-words-do-you-most-overuse/page/3/#findComment-99217 Share on other sites
Guest
For me it's probably 'bollocks'. I also say 'Oof' quite a lot.Working with people whose first language isn't English, I find myself producing strangely archaic expressions and mixed nursery metaphors quite often. Like I'm channelling a Victorian nanny. jumpinjackflash
there's a guy at work who constantly impersonates that Bulldog from the Churcill adverts. Now it's in my head and I can't stop saying "Ooohhh Yaaaeesss" everytime someone asks me a question!! CamberwellOz
I seem to find everything 'hilarious'. It makes me angry just thinking about it. Been going on for about two years now. I think I need to go see someone about it. Would they find it hilar.... *sigh* even I don't laugh at my jokes anymore.
