Totally agree re the black cabs point - they are driving around continually and claims such as 'all new cabs licensed have to meet the standard' misses the point It shows how strong the cabbie lobby is though!

To be clear - i'm in favour of measures to reduce pollution, so would prefer the ULEZ to go further in its application rather than be scrapped on account of its failings

Someone made an FOI request a few years ago asking TfL of the average age of black taxis. Less than 7% were 15 years old. 50% were between 7 and 8 years old.

People are losing there jobs over this

People have to buy expensive vans they cant afford

* Its is just punishing people who use the road

Punishing the drivers

And BIKERS

ULEZ follows the same mapped route as the congestion zone. So Vauxhall/Park Lane/ Edgware Road all remain outside the ULEZ and therefore are exempt. Which makes sense when you consider this is the main route from south London up towards the M1 and north.

Because they help ease congestion and hence already alleviate pollution.

It is hard to take this scheme seriously when disgusting noxious old black cabs are allowed to continue to pollute. I had to walk through the Euston station underground car park recently, past a line of 50 odd black cabs waiting for customers. All just sat there with their engines idling. I had to put my jumper over my mouth to stop myself being sick.

Black cabs are highly regulated, and drivers have almost no choice in the vehicle they buy, so it makes sense these are outside the ULEZ scheme.

There is a separate scheme already in place to modernise the black cab fleet (indeed for new cabs the emission requirements are much stricter than ULEZ).

Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but cul-de-sacs off the wrong side of the south circular may become expensive car parks.

Residents of Allison Grove and Ryecotes Mead are potentially looking forward to driving 20 yards out of their road, spending a whole day driving outside the ULEZ and then returning home to find that those last few yards have cost them ?12.50.

Well currently theres a whole list of exemptions for residents etc:

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/discounts-and-exemptions?intcmp=52218

So perhaps when it's extended in Octover there'll be a similar grace period covering the new zones?

Its just a money making scheme

Good. If TfL are making money, that means it can be reinvested in better public transport and more cycle lanes and if ULEZ / congestion charging is keeping private cars off the roads then the roads will be quieter and easier to get around on anyway.

ULEZ area is free for petrol cars built 2006 or later, and diesels 2015 or later. So not exactly restricted to new cars and vans, etc.

Circa half the particulates come from non engine related activity - clutch use, brakes, etc.

The ULEZ will also mean those living in the Congestion Charging Zone will finally have an incentive to consider their car use - they currently receive 90% discount on CCZ fees.

Hi James. My diesel car was registered in July 2013 but sadly falls into the charging. I'm not sure where the 2012 information came from?

I can't believe that Black Cabs have been exempted - they're heavily polluting and drive around all day looking for fares, or sit with their engines idling. They must make up a significant percentage of the pollution in Central London.

Because they free up traffic therefore should be Exempt from ULEZ

    • Personally can’t stand carpets however where I am renting has carpet in  bedroom and hall. Not great quality and certainly not cleaned. Was  in B & M recently and looking at carpet shampoo -wow got a can costing £2.99 to test.. No scrubbing as others seemed to imply. Spray, leave and poof - smells great, no dabbing or scrubbing and c leaving rubbish. First to admit is only temp solution but no need to hire carpet cleaner instantly  or pay for a company to come and deal with professionally. For 3/6 months happy to have used this - Have a carpet cleaner and in a month or so plan to use it.    Buy a steam cleaner for floors - not expensive - much better than mop and bucket and more hygienic all round. Can pick up second hand ones on e bay.
    • Is this a true story? What protein powder causes kidney damage? Why didn't you cite an article? I shop at H&B, mostly to buy their castor oil, however, I would recommend researching any product beforehand. They do have very informative articles on their website. To be honest, I don't see the point of this post. You could have just taken the product back for a refund or complained in store and in writing.
    • Well the Italian on Lordship Lane  recommended here was delicious.  Thank you so very much -my party were extremely pleased with ambience, location and lovely food plus puddings to die for. They are also on Deliveroo.  Will certainly be back when I am back in 6 weeks time. Went past Love Dulwich at lunchtime on my way to Italian - only a party of 2 - food might be excellent but decided to give it a miss - wasn’t impressed with manager who admitted he had only been there 2 weeks. Might be being totally unfair but doubt it, as no comments since about a month ago from Pugwash.
    • Thanks for the tip! I did a quick search and I’m thinking of grabbing a Bissell one. Looks like it’d be really handy for crumbs and pet hair without dragging the hoover out all the time — and especially at night when I don’t want to wake the kids 😅. For me the flat microfiber mops with the bottle attached has been game changing. No more lugging a bucket about, the thought would put me off at times
