Hi all,

This afternoon, whilst riding my bike, just before 3pm at the junction of Lordship Lane and Crystal Palace road, I was the victim of an attempted mugging by two boys on bikes. After shouting at me to get off my bike, one of them came up beside me and attempted to steer me off the road. Thankfully the one shouting came off his bike and I managed to mount the kerb and get away. Not sure what would have happened if he?d managed to stay on his bike. Please everyone be aware of your surroundings. Unsure as to why I was set on, maybe just opportunists.

Big thank you to the kind man at the bus stop who stayed with me whilst I called the police.

Stay safe,

Lucy

I'm sorry for what happened; I can imagine it was very frightening.

I suspect they did want your bicycle. There are more and more reports of this happening.

Do try not to think of what might have been: you are safe now. I hope you have enough emotional support and comfort at home.

I wish you well.

She did, she wrote that in her post.

Mid january 2020 around 6:30pm on the well lit recreational ground path my 53 year old brother was knocked from his bike by another cyclist resulting in the cyclist and 3 of his mates demanding money, phone , wallet and pin number for card or else.!......said to be somalian looking around 16/17 years old

Brother handed over the items.....they took ?500 from account before the cards were stoped

Brother has seen one of the guys regularly in the local area......he?s keen to leave it but I?ve suggested he should at least let the police know this scum bag is still around likely to steal or worse still harme someone

Please have him report it to the police.

If they did this to a man they wouldn't think twice about doing it to a woman with baby or an elderly person.

This sort of thing MUST be reported.

If no one reports it how can we demand safer streets?

We need stats to back up our complaints that the we need more patrols, more surveillance and more to the point if one of the robbers has since been spotted by your brother in the local area he owes it to all of us to report and give a full description.

He could save someones life by doing so.

Lives have been lost via street crime

Your brother really has to report this, these scumbags are walking free & probably mugging other people, he may have been lucky (this time) but others won't be.

Not sure Bank will refund unless it's reported - bank may have already done so.

The good thing is if you give your pin under duress they still refund (what else can you do)

They may well be..this is what we hope to avoid.

Also I dont see how the OP's brother could claim back the loss of money out of his account without a crime number

Apologies John - I have only just seen this. This sounds very much like the MO of a gang who have also been targeting children at the local private schools and stole the phone of the young son of a colleague. However, the same family whilst out the next week fortunately parked their car in a different location to usual, the gang was spotted, the Police called, and the four youths arrested. The word is that the youths were working for other, more experienced criminals who were using the stolen phones to obtain contacts, who were then sent phishing messages to obtain access to bank details. Sounds like a 21st century gang of Artful Dodgers working for Fagin.

    • Well, I made £50 out of it and Alice owes me another bullseye, so I had a good day Clearly the thread has moved on, but just a final few words on Rayner (from me, at least). If she hadn't gone like this (with a chance to revive her career at some point in the future) there's plenty of other stuff loaded up and ready to be fired at her about the motivation, finances and machinations of her move down South. It's not pretty reading. Tawdry doesn't come close. I was born in Ashton Hospital and grew up in Tameside, I've got a lot of friends and family who weren't as lucky as me and didn't make it out, some close to her constituency party, and there's been a lot of bad feeling around 'Our Ange' for a long time. My favourite quote was: 'She should fuck off back to Stockport.' And that was from a party member. The writing was on the wall for her. Moving from Ashton (majority c6.5k, large Pakistani minority, but predominantly white working class and targeted by both the Independent Alliance and Reform) to Hove (majority c20k, neither of these issues with the electorate) was a pretty cynical move, and she's fucked it royally. 'The Honourable Member for Hove and Portslade' will be sleeping a lot easier in their bed tonight. This thread was never supposed to about Labour bashing, and I'm not sure it is. It's definitely descended into 'Whataboutery', and that seems to be the problem, in my mind at least, with British politics. It's playground stuff, he said/she said, blame-game bollocks. Watch PMQs and ask yourself if you'd accept this sort of behaviour amongst toddlers, let alone in an elected parliament. One thing that does stand out is the opposition to Reform across the board, and yet we seem to be sleepwalking towards a likely scenario where Farage could head up a minority Reform government. I've 'followed' politics since the late Seventies - mainly because the BBC News came on right after 'Roobard and Custard' or 'The Magic Roundabout' - and I can't remember an era where both major parties are so bereft of leadership, direction or ideas. There's a certain irony that we'll all be getting a test text on Sunday to warn us of an impending 'National Emergency'. Seems quite prescient.
    • But not old enough to remember the highest unemployment rate, inflation and interest rates in history in the early eighties under the Tories? A rather selective memory you have. There has never been a four-day week: it was a three-day week imposed by the Conservative government under the Blasted Heath.
    • I see that there was a government consultation started in July 2024, a response, and then a revision to the National Planning Policy Framework, and then to the Green Belt guidance in February 2025, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/green-belt .  It includes the updates but doesn't give the nescient much clue of what was materially changed. There will probably be some good, and less good, summaries to be found.
    • I think, from memory for LHR, we are under a holding pattern so if LHR is backed up we may get more planes overhead. There are multiple holding patterns so it is not always ours that is used and it generally depends on the wind direction as to which is used.
