Lacon Road

Worker

Recommended Posts

Couple of trivial questions:

- how should Lacon Road be pronouonced (just the Lacon bit, I think I've mastered Road). Laykin?;

- where does this name come from? I've heard mention of a Bishop Lacon?

Grateful for any answers, thanks all.

Hi Worker,

According to John D Beasley's 'Illustrated Alphabetical Guide to East Dulwich', published in 1997, Lacon (sounds like bacon) Road was named after one of the original terraces built there in 1874. The others were Blenheim Villa, Ethel Villa and Fir Park Terrace, but Lacon could have been a bishop's name, I have no more info' on it.

Hope that this is helpful.

Regards.
