Worker
Couple of trivial questions:- how should Lacon Road be pronouonced (just the Lacon bit, I think I've mastered Road). Laykin?;- where does this name come from? I've heard mention of a Bishop Lacon?Grateful for any answers, thanks all. i*Rate
Hi Worker,According to John D Beasley's 'Illustrated Alphabetical Guide to East Dulwich', published in 1997, Lacon (sounds like bacon) Road was named after one of the original terraces built there in 1874. The others were Blenheim Villa, Ethel Villa and Fir Park Terrace, but Lacon could have been a bishop's name, I have no more info' on it.Hope that this is helpful.Regards. Gidget
I would pronounce bacon like bay cunn or baykin as above not baycon. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22682-lacon-road/#findComment-533656 Share on other sites
snapdecision
In Spain Lacon is the cured foreleg of a pig. The rear leg will be the Jamon and the foreleg the Lacon- like our Ham Hock.Probably irrelevant, but a good name for a road anyway- always makes me hungry when I drive through.
