katie1997
I don't have one but have heard good things about the VW Passat. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22709-new-car-ideas/#findComment-534011 Share on other sites
Jeremy
The 407 came mid-table in the JD Power survey, so maybe not as bad as nette suggests.http://www.whatcar.com/NonCar/Honda/2451111115759.jpgVW/Honda/Volvo do well, but I'm not sure if you'll get one with reasonable mileage for 6K.If you're willing to look at a slightly smaller car, I think the Skoda Octavia is alright. Chippy Minton
I had a Peugeot that was an automatic that developed quite a serious fault - when you accelerated and then took your foot off, the car continued to accelerate on its own! Annette Curtain
katie1997 Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I don't have one but have heard good things about> the VW Passat.Indeed*Nods*Apply the K.I.S.S principle (keep it simple stupid)I mean it's great when your (french) car arrives, complete with bollock scratcher and electric pile warmer. However, when these go wrong and it shorts-out the whole car system on the motorway, you kind of get over the idea.Go german and scratch/heat your respective areas manually.(IMHOBTW)NETTS(tu) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22709-new-car-ideas/#findComment-534038 Share on other sites
taper
I'd go German - a Passat with 50k on the clock (there's a good showroom in Norwood I think) or a slightly older Audi estate which you can pick up for 6k. ratty
Hmmm a Passatt is tempting qand I can def get a 45k mileage one for around that price! The 407 looks gorgeous though! Brendan
I?d go for a Mazda 6. Very good quality and you?ll get a lower mileage car with a few more bells and whistles on it for your 6K than you will if you go for a Volvo, Honda or VW. Annette Curtain
Catalytic Convertor on the Mazda 6 is around 2k. Not many available from salvageHonda's are nice but go for good moneyVolvo's are essentially Fords & VW's seem to hold their ownYes, Peugeot do look nice as do Renaults but that soon wanes as you sit cursing the fucking thing on the hard shoulder(tu)NETTE Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22709-new-car-ideas/#findComment-534082 Share on other sites
katie1997
Jeremy's right the Skoda Octavia is a good option.I'm er, helping someone choose a car to replace their Ford Ranger which had the cat converter nicked as they're easy to get underneath, cost ?500 to fix damage alone and the thieving bastards will easily return once its replaced. So the VW Passat and Skoda Octavia are front runners so far, relatively economical to run and repair. Have seen a few VWs with lowish mileage for your budget. Good luck. Annette Curtain
I think ratty (secretly) has a picture of himself pasted into a Pininfarina inspired/designed car like the 407"Inspired by Pina Pininni that bloke who designed Ferraris you know" he shouts at anyone passing, whilst sitting stationary at the traffic lights on Lordship lane*smoke palls out of the tailpipe-"check injectors" flashes warning light on dash*NETTE:-S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22709-new-car-ideas/#findComment-534094 Share on other sites
ratty
Ha Ha! I drive a T Reg Meganne at the moment, so certainly not. Just want something that I can fit the family in and have a bit of spare room in the boot for pushchairs and luggage. Reliability is key but I am not sure that Annette is not just a francophile and is pulling my pluunger!
