Autumn babies club (due Sept/Oct/Nov 2012)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone - I live right near the old jacks cafe on Pellatt Road and although it is a lovely new cafe (Captured in the Rye) it's really not suitable for a babies meet as it is tiny tiny - no room for a pushchair.

Its not very glamourous but I have recently discovered the Bread of Life cafe located in the church on Barry road near dulwich Library (opp the Plough pub car park).

Its big, welcomes babies etc and has inexpensive food and cakes...plenty of room for buggies.

Might be an idea...? Now Freddie is 3 weeks old I hope to make it along again soon

Amber/Caroline - starting to feel a bit more 'with it' now Freddie is 3 weeks old (!) - unfortunately Mondays are not great for the next few weeks as I have my best pal here next Monday and my mum the Monday after

Next Tuesday or Wednesday I am free though and Annabel is at nursery which makes it a bit easier - if anyone is up for a meet up?

Dish and Spoon would also be fine with me. I won't be at Lucas tomorrow as I can't do lunchtimes - it's sacrosanct nap time in my house where we all go to sleep for an hour or two!

Would be up for a one-off alternative meet up this week eg Gardens on Weds morning if anyone else fancies it.... no worries if not though.

I keep meaning to try and join you on one of the meetups, my little boy is now 7 weeks old but with a toddler daughter as well has proved difficult.

Wanted to add that the dish and spoon is nt open on a monday either so would be no good, second bread of life cafe not the best of food but cheap and cheerful. And for those wanting to bring toddlers has a few toys and plenty of space.

Can't think of any other cafes with the space other than the park cafes.

Hello, shall we stick with Monday's, and try the Bread of Life? I for one have given up being cool a loooong time ago (if I ever was!)! It looks like some other meet UPS are happening naturally so if we all keep posting then hopefully everyone can find one that suits! On that note, I know I suggested the park on Friday's but that has ended up being my NCT meet up (the other lady's babies weren't born when I suggested that date) so sorry I haven't made that yet. I do think I can finally make it this Friday so if anyone is up for that, please do post!

Take care and hope all are well,

Kate x

How annoying about The Gardens! Bread of Life cafe on a Monday as an alternative venue sounds good to me. Can't make tomorrow as my toddler is at Diddi Dance (on your recommendation, Amber - we went last week and William LOVED it!) and Fridays don't work for me either so really looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday and catching up.

Louise - hope all is going well with Freddie -looking forward to meeting him in due course!

Caroline - we do Diddi Dance too now but on a Friday - at the Christ Church on Barry Road (hence why I have also discovered the Bread of Life)...Annabel really likes it too!

Amber - I bumped into Otis (and his new nanny?) a few weeks ago coming out of the 10am Diddi dance class? We do the 11am on Fridays now.

I hope to make it tomorrow too - as long as I have an ok-ish night!

Caroline, shame you're not doing the Friday diddidance class - would be nice to intro Otis and William!

Louise, yes basically after I last saw you, i found out that Otis and Annabel already know each other from tippee toes, and the birthday party at dish and spoon you mentioned was one that Otis had already been invited to - I just didn't put two and two together!

Anyway, hope to see you both tomorrow / mon!

    • You have my complete sympathy. In my case, I discovered you can't even go to an eye emergency clinic any more. You have to phone round opticians on a list who are part of a scheme. The only one in East Dulwich who was part of the scheme had a six week waiting list. That isn't very helpful when you are in danger of going blind. I was lucky that another East Dulwich optician told me to try one in Crofton Park, who was able to see me that day. They told me it was good that the ulcer had been caught early. Hollow laugh. It was three days and a long long saga  before I could get the eye drops. Ironically, I paid for a private prescription rather than the optician sending it to my GP to prescribe because I thought it would be quicker 😭 And then I couldn't get the effing drops anywhere anyway.
    • Yes, it's crazy! I called the doctor to see if there's any way to find out who has them, and they just said I need to call around. Unfortunately I can't really take an alternative. I've finally found one that has 17 days worth, so I'm going to run before they get taken before me. 🙂  I had called 30 different pharmacies in South London, madness.
    • Hopefully that's the case, unless the receiver left specific instructions concerning a safe place (i.e. behind the bins) in which case the receiver is deemed to have accepted the goods and their responsibility if they go missing.  Obviously in this case a safe place would be hard to identify but none the less if any instructions were given to leave it if no one is in then responsibility is removed from the company and courier. Equally, I've had cases where a delivery didn't occur and tracking shows it had, only for delivery actually occur a day or days later.
    • I had this problem recently when I couldn't get antibiotic eye drops anywhere which I needed urgently for an eye ulcer. Wholesalers had run out. I had to get a new prescription for an alternative antibiotic. Might whoever has prescribed yours be able to suggest an alternative, even on a temporary basis, or is that not possible? I have read that this is happening all over the country. I believe it is partly but not wholly to do with Brexit. What seems ridiculous to me is that there is apparently no central system to be able to find out  what wholesalers/pharmacies have a particular medication in stock. People who need urgent treatment are stressed enough already without having to phone round themselves to find a place who has what they need.
