So five weeks after a forceps delivery of a rather large baby and I can barely stand up from sitting due to pain in my coccyx / tailbone.

Has anyone experienced this? Any advice on treatment? I understand some doctors don't take it very seriously and others recommend surgery.....this is very depressing as I'm desperate to stay active and get out and about..

I feel your pain ( literally ) gave birth to a big boy three weeks ago and tailbone aching and throbbing especially after long feeds sitting down - it seems to cease up. I have been to see a good osteopath at London bridge ( robin Kirk) and he said its common and clicked it all back and eased considerably. Hes very good - ill send you number if you like. Need to go back after a week of carrying, feeding, general heaving of toddler and double buggy. You have my sympathy!

Huge sympathy. I think the aftercare for assisted deliveries should really be a lot better. I couldn't breastfeed sitting up because of it, and was in such pain even when walking. I could see me on anti-depressants in a few years, but the NHS don't offer any treatment options, or an x-ray to see what is wrong. The advice I got was to sit on a circular cushion, as you would for piles (no help at all).

I finally saw a chiropractor after 10 months, which I really wish I'd done sooner. I saw Michael Durtnall at the sayer clinic, and he was great. He took an x-ray so we could both see the problem, which is that the bone was stuck in the wrong position, and I had three treatments, although the first one was like a miracle. I used to be like you - awful pain, and now only have the odd twinge. I should really go back again, but I do admit it was expensive. Utterly worth it, not to be miserable. He says he sees a lot of women post birth with the same problem, so we really are not alone.

    • thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...
    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
