How many of you play a musical instrument? East Dulwich seems to be full of musicians and I wondered about setting up some kind of list of people who might be interested in getting together to play for pleasure now and then. My interest is mostly in classical music. I played piano as a child and reached Grade 8 and started learning cello in mid-life - probably around Grade 6 level. If there's enough interest I'll set up some mechanism where you could register your details.

Pickle... the SBC rehearse every Thursday 7:45-10pm (resuming this week, 10th, after the xmas break). I've been with them for the last 10 years. You may find yourself on the waiting list for the Flute section but they usually welcome you along to a few rehearsals as a taster.

Have just posted the following in the wanted section, but thought I'd put it here too.

We are a new covers / function band, born out of the music at my wedding. The idea is to have the fun of playing music, and make a few quid at the same time.

We currently have Guitar, drums, bass, 2 trumpets, trombone, male and female vocals. We are playing all sorts, from soul, to rock, to pop. It his all going really well, we're getting gigs, and are very pleased with our progress.

The one thing that we feel could improve us is a good keyboard player, as that would open up loads of new possibilities! We were thinking a female who could do some backing vocals would be ideal, but at the end of the day, if you can play well, then your gender / singing ability really doesn't matter!

One thing that is important is that you have your own keyboards, as the only one I have isn't really up to the quality that we are after. We have the PA that it could go through, so amps aren't so important.

We are all experienced musicians, and we are taking this very seriously, so we're not looking to waste anyones time.

If you're interested, PM me on here, or call Matt on 07920556331 and tell him you're responding to Keith's ad.

Seriously, sax could be very useful. The drummer plays a bit, and is often saying he would love some sax in the band! I do have a keyboard which isn't bad, but I'd like someone with a proper good one with all sorts of decent symph sounds. That way we could play loads of 80's, Killers, all sorts!

    • Quote "it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me." Doesn't say clearly that it tried to bite you , but instead implies that you had the impression, right or wrong that it wanted to nip you.  unless you are clear others will read it how you write it.  As for being a jobsworth, what a quaint old expression, haven't heard that for a long while.
    • Crook locks can be sawn through, or the steering wheel to which it is attached, I know to my own cost. The safest additional security measure is what's called a ghost immobiliser, which cannot be traced through the car's electronics, meaning it is difficult to bypass. They cost a bomb however.
    • I’ve reported two instances of mobile phone theft to 999 in recent times. On both occasions several police units have arrived very quickly - in one case they found the perpetrator.
    • With all these high-end car thefts, surely there's a case to be made for all new cars to be supplied with a Crook Lock type device and having insurance invalidated if the owner does not have it in place when it is parked.
